Living room design help!

We are in the process of buying a new house and hoping to get the keys at the end of the month. We've brought a new corner sofa in a light beige material and I've attached a pic (it's actually not as light as the picture I've attached, the colour is the same as the sofa pictured in the image with the coffee table if that helps give you the idea). I've attached a pic of the cushions we've brought to go on the sofa too. We've also brought the oak coffee table in the picture below.
I've attached two pictures of the living room in our new house that this furniture will go in. It's a great sized room and we're thinking of painting the walls white. We're thinking about getting wood flooring or replacing the carpet (the current carpet is so worn down so we need to do something!). We have sand coloured curtains with strips of dark and a slightly lighter brown at the top part of the curtains. Either way, should we get a rug too?
When I imagine what I've described in that room, I'm concerned it's a bit too neutral and not sure how to bring the room to life. Was thinking of returning the brown patterned cushion and getting the same but in a light blue/turquoise colour. Then perhaps a few ornaments in the same sort of colour?
What do you think, do you think the idea I've got will work or do you have any other visions for the room? Not sure about a feature wall as the room isn't really the right shape?

11 years agoWe have brown sofas and cream carpet and curtains in our living room and we have added a brown, pink and green carpet which matches really well. We also have a cream bean bag in the corner of the room
The photo attached is the carpet and rug in our living room

Comments (11)Hi, I love Grey as a base colour, it will go with so many others! Grey is a cool colour, so you are often better off with feature colours being warm, such as Raspberry's and Greens for a more traditional homely feel, or even Oranges and Turquoises for a modern twist. The thing about the Tartan ( and I added some to my lounge last year, is that, less is more! When you get bored with the tartan cushions, just change them for something else. If your bases are neutral, it's very easy to change to look just by buying different cushion covers! Always go for plain, but lush curtains as they're an expensive item and you don't want to change those too often, so again go neutral. Feature walls are great for adding a splash of colour, and it's easy and cheap to change when you want a different look. Here are some ideas i've pulled together for you. Comments (3)Are you sure you have the measurements correct. That's around 300 Feet long by 45 feet - The size of a football pitch! That being the right size, you'd need to get an architect on board, presumably there are some windows there etc, you can't make suggestions until you know the basics - that starts with plumbing and drains., these will dictate where you can put the rooms....See MoreLiving Room Interior Design Help
Comments (6)The human brain prefers symmetry so the room is looking odd right now due to the fire/tv, - it could be that the fire is actually centre in that wall, although it appears not to be. I would add a custom built-in in the space to the left of the TV. Make it floor to ceiling and to fit flush with the fireplace wall to give the illusion of one long wall. You could get a joiner to build it for you or as you like to create for yourself, do a search of Ikea Billy bookcase hacks. I have seen a lot of people use these to be very creative when making built-ins. Assuming the fire and TV stays the same, to balance the wall the other side, add some very slim shelving at the same horizontal heights of your built-in. A value for money solution here would be Ikea picture shelves. They are very slimline (they won't stick out far from the wall) and you can stand photos/art of them or small ornaments. I would think about a couple of lamp tables to add some lamps and accessories. Not sure if you are changing the colour but I would also add an accent colour (or two) and maybe use it in a rug and some cushions or accessories and art. A coffee table may also work - maybe glass to give the appearance of that space still being open. On the back wall behind the sofas how about two large pieces of artwork either side of that middle section. Comments (7)I think what you're seeing is a slight discord between the deep teal and the cool sofa and wallpaper. When people say grey goes with everything, it's a bit misleading as most greys are in fact a colour and it actually is quite difficult to get grey to work. This is because all colours relate to each other and if you have a colour that doesn't 'lean' towards another colour (such as a pure grey) it can look like it's out on a limb. If you find a colour that goes with both the green blue walls and the sofa then that is one way of correcting it. I have the same wall colour in my small lounge and the colour I love with it is 'sandy' colours which is essentially your pouffe and the lovely cupboard next to the fireplace. Wicker, and sandy coloured soft items might help to correct it. Add in some warmer tactile elements around the cooler areas and that will help. This is my TV wall in my small lounge. If I took away the warm ochre elements and the textured hessian shade the temperature would go down. I think it just needs warming up....See More- 11 years ago

- 11 years agoThis is the colour of our sofa (but we brought the corner version) and the coffee table we brought. We will be saving for wood flooring so will need to make do with the carpet for now, so we will buy a rug maybe??
Hopefully this picture will help with any suggestions for wall colour - we need to get rid of the yellow that it currently is!! (Picture above in original post)
