Comments (15)I agree with Emanuelle. I think wood brings warmth to schemes like this. I have also lived with wood worktops and love the fact they can be sanded and resealed. I have broken so many lovely places on my granite, but it does look nice too. I think your issue is with tone, not colour. The floor is tonally dark and almost everything else is light. As long as the worktop is in between tonally it should be down to your personal preference....See MoreDifferent floor surface(s) in one open space
Comments (14)Big exacting project :-) I would go for tiles in the kitchen area (provided it's a good solid floor) and wood everywhere else. I think a well considered rug or two add warmth and character. And you can change them around to suit time of year and decoration. My primary reason for not choosing carpet is that the space will be much larger and more easily accessed and used, carpet will get dirty quite quickly in this situation. A friend of mine has successfully added motto an style tiled areas within a wooden floor. The breaks the space up in a totally different way, by making the area a focus (is under dining table or round kitchen island) rather keeping the room division as focus. Hope that makes sense!...See Moresolid wood kitchen worktops
Comments (12)Hello, I think solid wood worktops look stunning. I had them in my old house and for the 2 years I was there I did not have to re-oil them at all because I looked after them well. I did not put anything hot straight on to them and I made sure all water and splash marks were wiped down straight away. One good thing about wooden tops is that if you do mark them you know it will come out by sanding and re-oiling them. You already know that wooden worktops are not as practical as quartz but they do bring warmth to an interior and look really striking when paired with the right colours. If this is what you have your heart set on then go for it but I would advise taking extra care with having children. You may decide that you want to have a quartz top in the areas where you have got your sink and hob and then keep the wooden tops to an area you do not use so much. I use wooden overhangs a lot in my designs where I have got casual seating such as on an island or breakfast bar. This works really well and does look really effective especially if you have got other bits of oak or walnut within your kitchen....See MoreKitchen worktop - solid surface or stone?
Comments (1)Joints are classed as inconspicuous. Therefore you can see them … just about, and that’s providing they’re fitted correctly The smaller the pattern, normally the less the joint stands out. There are lots to choose from. lt’s a minefield of choice out there. Take a look at Pietra and Pietra Gold as a good solid surface worktop. Middle of the range price wise....See More- 13 years ago
