We would advise it is completely dependant on the space and your requirements. Walk-in wardrobes look great if they are kept tidy, however a plus for having doors is that it can conceal any mess and give more protection for clothing. Another trend for walk-in wardrobes is to have smoked glass doors mixed with open elements this could also work with matt lacquered doors. Alternatively you could choose to have open elements for items such as bags, shoes or coats (things you know that are easy to keep tidy) then hinged doors for other modules.

But if you prefer a proper base B&Q will cut wood to size or it could be better putting some cheap wood flooring in if easier to cut or a fresh piece of carpet. It will depend on your property and the way it is used. Thermal lining paper could work in a house that has damp caused by condensation by keeping warm moist air away from cold walls you eliminate the condensation point. However the same lining paper in a house that has moisture in the wall because of water ingress would make the damp problem much worse by trapping the water in the wall and not allowing it to dry out. All houses since ancient times are designed with systems (roofs, guttering, drains, breathable materials, heating, vents, chimneys, mechanical extraction, damp proof course etc) to prevent excess moisture indoors. It's usually people messing with these systems or damage to them that causes damp problems. The first step in fixing any damp problem is finding the cause. Once you've found the cause you can eliminate it at the source and so generally don't need overpriced damp proofing solutions sold by the damp proofing "experts".

It’s a dilemma, isn’t it, when something is too good to rip out but really not your style? If you can’t keep the wardrobes in the single room, could you use those spare units to fill in the bit in the main bedroom where overhead lockers and dressing table bit are? So you end up with one interrupted row of useful wardrobes. I think the layout is what looks so dated. You’d have to move your bed to the other side of the room of course (and maybe remove some of the other units to make space) but you’d not then be sleeping with an oppressive row of cabinets over your head. I would want to paint those doors or cover them with fabric, but there are loads of people with experience about that who will be along to help no doubt.
