Help with small en suite bathroom layout
Comments (63)We have been playing around with this today and this is the layout we think we will go with. Due to solid floors and walls if we move the loo we need significant boxing in. My app has limited selections of items but we will have sanitary ware in these locations, we think!...See MoreSmall bathroom - advice needed
Comments (6)Hi John, yes this is a small room but there is a lot you can do to avoid it looking cramped and still make it practical. The layout you've suggested is perfect. The 1500mm bath is a good idea but you can also get extra deep ones this length which could give you a little more coverage for want of a better phrase! I see you've gone for a narrow basin - also good. I'd go for a pedestal rather than a vanity to give more floor space and put a cupboard with a mirror above it for storage. If there's a window in the way put it above the loo. Get a narrow toilet too so you have space for a loo brush and bin and can still get in behind it to clean. Put your towel rad on the wall at the end of the bath opposite the shower assuming you're having one. And go for a curtain instead of a screen so when it's pulled Back it opens up the room. Keep the tiling light and go for large tiles with pale grout. I've attached a link to a bathroom I did the same size. Comments (25)I wouldn't change much regarding the layout/placement of white goods either. But it'd be possible to get some extra. For example, an L- or P-shaped shower bath would get a nicer shower space. You'd end up with the wider part by the window though so may then also consider opaque glazing or a screen there. A concealed cistern in the back wall would bring that forward by around 10cm. If you don't want to loose all that space, a boxed-in cistern and shelves above may give you a little storage back. On the washing machine: you triggered my inner geek :-) This may be possible. You need to research a few things for this: A) a slim depth washing machine (usually 425mm) B) availability of a height reduction kit for it (if these are avail gets height down from 850mm to 800mm) C) use an extra-flat bottle trap for the basin D) partly embed that into a thin washtable (to make the surface then a total of ~100mm above the machine) If all these go together it should just be possible to fit washtable, drains, basin trap and the machine underneath into a box about 910x600x500mm (HxWxD) which is kitchen unit height. The countertop sink would sit above that. Maybe a little bit of extra space could be gained still if you'd construct a basin from a flat shower tray with an integrated trap (a Wedi fundo plano is 60mm high) but I'm not sure how to put the washing machine drain on then. Good luck!...See MoreLarge bathroom vs small bathrooms / ensuite
Comments (7)I'd make one big bathroom but have a door into it from your bedroom as well as from the hall - so it's an ensuite most of the time, but guest access from hall when necessary. Agree with above to make a lovely bedroom and bathroom for yourselves and share with guests - who will also appreciate a lovely bathroom rather than a small internal one. And from your two-bath solution - the main reason for me to want an ensuite is to have easy access to the toilet from bedroom during the night, so having the toilet separate from both bathrooms (and especially far from the ensuite) makes no sense to me at all. While Jonathan's idea works better if you want two smaller bathrooms, I'd rather have one big bathroom and no ensuite than a tiny ensuite....See MorePaul McCann
