Design/layout help.

Hi! So this may seem a little odd but I was wondering if anyone needs any help in designing a room or the layout of a floor plan?

I'm currently sick and need something to distract me.

I'm in no way a professional but I've been told that I'm pretty good at interior design and I've helped a few people on here already.

I'm happy to help with anything I can. Sometimes an outsiders perspective can help ideas come to life.

So far on here I've helped with an apartment layout, a kids bedroom and a studio apartment.

I need help with my living room. It's open plan onto stairs and have to walk through it to get to kitchen. Problem is it isn't big enough to easily move things around? May have to stick with same layout but want to make more use of understair area as dead space - thinking something built in / custom made?? All, ideas welcome

Mattdodds Hi! I'll see what I can come up with. Do you have a floor plan available with wall/door and window sizes ?
Do you have a budget in mind?

Picture is not very clear but its probably a bit lighter than in picture as taken on my phone I have fallen in LOVE with F&B Wisteria wallpaper in the cinder rose background and I think it matches perfectly with the vert de terre which will be in the kitchen... Im thinking wallpaper back wall behind the long bit of the sofa and facing the chimney and then a lighter shade on the wall adjoining it where the short length of sofa will go... perhaps shaded white? I like elephants breath but I think this maybe too dark and this wall needs to reflect light into the room ... Then onto chimney brest and alcoves... There will be a stove in the opening and a tv on the brest above the stove ... do I also wallpaper the brest or the alcoves or do I apint one of these just in cinder rose or do I use the other 2 shades in the wallpaper!??! decisions decisions...

Hello clarefin, It's a good idea to have the fridge freezer where it is and you could box this in with "Slim" pullout larders either side if there is room.. Could you have a galley? I do like these as opposed to L or U shaped kitchens personally.. The fridge freezer could have a cabinet front for example with double height larders either side on the galley start as another option... You might also consider an island with cooking elements facing the french doors and the island could also morph into a dining table..So this could give you more room. I quite like the two doors and depending on where windows are I'd leave these, if you can still get a good run on the cabinetry and worktop... Consider materials you like, how you cook and move around the kitchen as this too will help you to define what you want out of the space.. Also the things... ! I find when designing kitchens that the what often dictates the where both spatially, architecturally and aesthetically... : ))

What is the orientation of the rooms? Consider the natural light levels in your design. Pocket doors between the two rooms are potentially a good idea to give you maximum versatility, subject to structural support considerations.

Hi Izzi, What a lovely room you have! I am sure your kitchen is going to look gorgeous regardless! Out of the three layouts you have suggested, personally, I feel option 1 is the best. Reason being, the other two are creating more boundaries which will affect the open feel you are after and feel less spacious. With angular rooms like this one, it is best to keep it simple. I f you wanted to make the kitchen bigger (and didn't mind seeing cabinets from the living area) you could extend the long run of cabinets down to the pillar. Then move the dining table closer to where the sideboard current is. This would make the kitchen feel more grand and spacious, rather than it being tucked away. Again this is down to personal preference regarding how open-plan you want to go. I hope this helps! Jessica E Casa Interior Design

I can get you a floor plan but don't have one right now, I will try though! Attached another picture.

As for budget, open at the moment as not sure what could be achieved. Definitely will get new floor, skirting & woodwork will be white, and doors will be changed to oak. I hate the huge windowsill but it's over the meters / fuse box so costly to move those (I believe?). Ceiling has recently been reskimmed (was artex) so is fresh white with LED down lights.

Also worth saying that through the wall that I've attached a pic of below, is the garage...I know it would cost a lot more but I have thought about knocking through and converting that to living space...but I'm getting ahead of myself! And I know you would need a proper floor plan to see what I mean!
