small room massive bed....
Comments (11)Hello Jane, Personally I would consider the larger bed but forgo the bedside table.. lobarker has a good point about floating shelving and even floating bedside lighting! I too have a huge bed 4 poster and the bedroom is huge with a fireplace.. but.. I cannot just move the bathroom that has been put in the corner without ££ because freeholder wants to charge for survey, even though it's partition wall! I don't have a gr8 deal of ££. So at the moment living with a quarter of the room taken. One side to get to the other is barely wider than the width of my frame! I have a free standing wardrobe at the end and my wardrobe is in my living room... Actually wardrobes look fantastic in living rooms.. I have a french style painted matt black to suit the bed and there is a Chinese wardrobe in the living room... The reason for this explanation is that you could consider ripping out the built in version which is what I would do... In favour of having a free standing version.. Either there or as I have both, but in separate rooms. In fact wardrobes are far more versatile.. you can have as larder, crockery storage, in kitchen, dining, living or bedroom... So have a think about what you could do if you forgo the idea of built in... It could give you more space to play with.. : ))...See MoreBefore and After fireplace surround painting.
Comments (22)Thanks. Oh yeah, we're definately doing other rooms ! The whole house from top to bottom eventually. This room was top priority as it's the sitting room, we wanted to put our 'stamp on the place'. We've only been moved in since the start of the year. This is the before room, taken from the Estate Agents listing: .......... And now (trying to take a pic from the same place) The conservatory is hard to change, pic taken from the Estate Agents listing: ....... And now (taken this morning) - currently has our old sofa in there until we find some conservatory furniture that doesn't look like it belongs in a 1970's old peoples home. Only change is really the addition of blinds The study pic taken from the Estate Agents listing: .......... and now it's my man cave / music room And then .............. The current kitchen is getting ripped out and a new one put in starting 30th May. There is also a dividing wall that's being taken down between the kitchen and dining room to allow for a breakfast bar and a much bigger space. Designs from the kitchen people below Oh, and the double garage is slowly taking shape into the gym: Sorry for picture overload....See MoreFireplace blocked problem - Georgian house
Comments (5)Dear Vicky, I'm sorry you seem to be at the hand of some particularly dense builders, but this has made me quite cross. Let's get this straight, they took away everything that was blocking the chimney, then blocked it back up again without addressing the edge problem and most likely charged you for it?? All they have to do is chisel the edge away, which would in no way effect the Chimney Construction, then get a plasterer to skim it over and put a piece of skirting in at the bottom, it will then look like it was never there. It's pointless trying to make it look pretty. You would have been better off to leave it unblocked, and to rectify the edge problem, thus keeping a period feature. Those builders would have lasted 2 minutes with me!!!...See More1950's fireplace
Comments (33)absolutely love that fireplace. colours that go with brown are limited even though its fairly neutral. you could go with crisp grey blue or a safe cream on the walls and accent with dark and navy blues. personally i would be brave and go with lots of autumnal colours it would pull together nicely and have a cosy feel...See More- 11 years ago
