small room massive bed....
the rooms are very compact to say the least.
my concern is our huge bed! UK super king size - 200x180cm.
we need to big bed to sleep together comfortably. down sizing isn't really an option. or we will end up in separate rooms which is what prompted the big bed in the first place.
the boys will have their own room and the third box room will be storage for clothes. dressing room etc.
so in this room we need the bed and our bedside tables (optional).
iv worked out I could put it against the wall opposite the door. the bedside table will block one door of the built in wardrobe... but I can live with that. then we will have about 2ft around the bed.
Is this ridiculous? should I push the bed to the corner?
what would you all do? iv mocked up the room and attached floor plan for master. our home is the other way round to the builder floor plans.

Comments (11)Ha ha, I did wonder if that was the case. Planners might deem it overkill if we went out at the side as well as up and it would be on the boundary wall with the neighbour as well. Maybe if it was only a the end section it would be ok but I'd have to ask the planners The issue is that if we built into our driveway then we couldn't have a garage - not one that useable for cars as such. It's not a wide driveway so the garages are all set back into the garden (the owners of this one have removed it so we have to put one in anyway!) I have been a busy bee myself and learned how to use Homestyler but I must say it's a painful and slow process. I have been obsessed with the floor plan of the small flat for the past week as the time has come to finalize it with the new team. We'll be around 2 months behind the plan which is fine. So I made the decision to not have a loft in the small flat because the floorplan I chose seems to work well with loads of storage. Please excuse some of the furniture such as the kitchen and the colour of the large cabinet, they will be white but Homestyler is quite limited so I had to chose from whatever they had in store. Let me know what you think of the floor plan please. I'm happy with it so far. I'll send you links to short panoramic videos Honestlyler created which was a godsend as that'd exactly what I wanted to see, at least approximately how my flat would look like. if we went down a bed size we would only gain a foot as the king is 5ft and the super 6ft. plus we would have the expense of another bed which isn't realistic.
we love the big bed. it needs to stay. I just need to find how to make the room look best and not overfilled.

PRO11 years agoHello Jane, Personally I would consider the larger bed but forgo the bedside table.. lobarker has a good point about floating shelving and even floating bedside lighting! I too have a huge bed 4 poster and the bedroom is huge with a fireplace.. but.. I cannot just move the bathroom that has been put in the corner without ££ because freeholder wants to charge for survey, even though it's partition wall! I don't have a gr8 deal of ££. So at the moment living with a quarter of the room taken. One side to get to the other is barely wider than the width of my frame! I have a free standing wardrobe at the end and my wardrobe is in my living room...
Actually wardrobes look fantastic in living rooms.. I have a french style painted matt black to suit the bed and there is a Chinese wardrobe in the living room... The reason for this explanation is that you could consider ripping out the built in version which is what I would do... In favour of having a free standing version.. Either there or as I have both, but in separate rooms.
In fact wardrobes are far more versatile.. you can have as larder, crockery storage, in kitchen, dining, living or bedroom... So have a think about what you could do if you forgo the idea of built in... It could give you more space to play with.. : ))
