@Susan Lacey, this is a live project and it is still incomplete. We wanted to go through the process start to finish, so that readers get an idea of what could be required for their own renovation projects. Therefore, we have not quite reached the "after" photo stage...but we're getting close!

Hi Pips_P I totally agree that a larger family bathroom is a good idea. I think that a four bedroom semi with an existing master-suite in the loft would benefit from a large, nice bathroom, not only for resale value but also to benefit the lifestyles of the average family. A family with young children will enjoy the benefit of the shared space and a nice, large, walk-in shower will help any grandparents staying over and teenagers. I did a quick arrangement for you on the attached image (I love space planning) and I just proposed what i would do if this was my place. It is just a quick additional idea for you and I hope it helped you think in a different way about the possibilities of the space. Just a note - I have built out and straightened some of the walls to hide pipes. The walls will be thicker for this reason, but the end result will be much sleeker without all the boxing out. I also hid a mirror cabinet above the sink and showed a fake panel in front of the riser to ensure that if you do chose to do something like this - use the whole wall space and hide the boxing behind the mirror which is just a fake door to the 3 barrel cabinet (I hope that makes sense). I also moved the first floor window over fractionally into the shower room for the guest room. This will be a minor amendment to your planning and shouldn't be an issue for overlooking as it will be obscured anyway - always call the council and double check). Think big! Hi guys, Thinking of extending over our garage. I have had two designs back from the architect. We had initially gone for design 2 and have planning permission for this but due to the budget we are thinking of design 1 which requires less remodelling of upstairs and a new staircase. We are reapplying in order to pull the front wall out so it is only stepped back by 0.5m so this would make design 1 possible and not too cramped. The trouble with design 1 is that is doesn't create a flat landing. Has anyone got some create suggestions to form a landing on design 1 or would having the winder go right as well with a modified step be ok? Thanks Current Design 1 Design 2
