Yep her stuff is out of mine, did I tell you that before? She was suppose to move into the house and it fell through the day before so all her things bar sofa and bed had to be stored in mine( she got the keys 6days later though). All the upstairs is getting painted just now so they have stored everything in this long living room just now. I've got a HNC in interior architecture but I liked the technical side more and was also worrying of jobs( doesn't seam to be a lot of jobs in Glasgow for interior design) so I swapped to doing architectural technology, this is my 2nd year doing this course so HND, see how this year goes and either take a job at technician or go into 3rd year at uni for same course. I can't draw at all, all done con computer with cad/ sketch up/ and now Revit but I'm hopeless at that just now,, I can trace though lol

Hello Karen, The pic is a bit too small and doesn't really enlarge to see what's happening here.. It's not always the case that offering another bedroom would be the right way to go in order to make more money as I'm assuming this is the reasoning... If the space is obviously kitchen and dining it's really difficult too with the spatial configurations to offer this as living room as well. I think a straight galley would be good here and what I would design, but with windows possibly not this run on window side but on the opposite side with the configuration I'm going to suggest... Start with a full height fridge freezer in the corner Then have a run of two cabinets and then free standing range at 60 wide and then two further low cabinets and then sink with slimline dishwasher for example.. So roughly going to about 460 or so. . Maybe you could incorporate a free standing dresser for crockery/glassware opposite and then the 4 cupboards would be pots and pans etc... keeping the galley minimal means the space opens as much as possible... . How you deal with the colours etc will of course have further impact.. If you had this on the wall side you could then have some overhead cabinets if you wanted to... Many interesting ways of doing this that is not just uniform and boring.. I'd keep the front room as a living room and rear as bedroom, there may be a way to re plan the bathroom to make it smaller whilst retaining what is essential... for a bath consider a soaking tub which is a meter wide or a tiny bath with shower fitting overhead.. : ))

How long and how narrow is the kitchen ?

A darker cool color (blue, green, black) on the 'head walls' will make the room more 'compact'. Or by painting the dining area a different wall color the room will be cut up in two. Keep the arch the same color as the ceiling though. And yes, some new seating will do wonders! Either a 3/4p sofa and some smaller armchairs or a corner sofa, like below. Look for a slightly longer media cabinet. Just one, so remove the table. Instead of a coffee table, place a side table next to the sofa's and/or some small stools that can double up as seating when needed. Then you might want to consider removing the volant curtains and hang more subtle honeycomb blinds and/or floor to ceiling semi transparent drapes. And remove the rug, it is too small (so is the sheepskin in the image below) and accentuates the narrow. A rug should be (nearly) as wide as the seats on it.
