Cooker hood help!

I am after a stylish 90cm stainless steel chimney style cooker hood. It's to go over a Barazza hob. Any suggestions? I am considering the range master or the smeg. I don't care about the brand but want it to look good as it will be very visible and be high performance as it's an open plan kitchen and with little noise!!

I used to work for Aga/Rangemaster and their build quality is very good. You could try their customer service team on 0800 8046261 or 0370 7895107 and they will tell you which is lowest noise generating. In addition, I would recommend that you not only check the decibel levels of the models you are considering from the product specifications, but if you can try and listen to other people's hoods and compare to see if you think you can tolerate them in your space. A difficult process, especially as most kitchen showrooms don't have working models just show pieces. Best of luck.

We do a lot of work with the Siemens range which are very well designed both for purpose and aesthetics. They rate individually for extraction and noise levels so you can decide where in the range you can stretch to budget wise to balance performance.

Take a look at the LC97BE532B for a classic sleek look on a reasonable budget or something like the LC98KA570B if you want a real design feature that will deliver excellent performance both extraction and noise wise. You can either internally scrub or externally vent any of them.

Thanks for the reply OnePlan. I have a north facing kitchen which is why I chose the white gloss, if I go with a black hood will it retract from the goal I am trying to achieve? I need to bring as much light and reflection as possible into the kitchen. Thanks again.

There are other options than just getting a free generic design done... we offered a design service. We don’t sell any products, have no commissions coming in from anyone, so are totally focused on getting the design right to suit you ... then you shop around with that design and compare like for like - and buy from whomever you like best ! It’s not free, no. We have several levels of service , but even the most expensive is only about the cost of a good dishwasher, for most average sized kitchens. Shopping around could save you thousands.

We had a non branded one in our last house that had good reviews for being quiet and was inexpensive and that was a recirculating one. The filters were fairly easy to change but we did get a build up of grease at the top on the ceiling still and I don’t fry foods! Is there definately no way of venting it out? If not, just check the extraction rate for recirculating for that brand and see if they do special converters for it like the Neff hood I have do. Ie they do one called a clean air filter which is almost as effective as vented but costs over £400! Eek. Then of course the standard carbon filter.

Hello! It very much depends on the overall look of your kitchen and the layout. If having the cupboard above the cooker is imperative to make the kitchen feel more cohesive then making sure that your integrated extractor has sufficient power to be effective - your kitchen supplier will be able to tell you what they supply for that. If you were to change to get rid of the cupboard and use a ceiling or wall mounted extractor then it will become a feacture in the space as it will contrast with the cupboards. Not to say that this is a bad thing, sometimes this can add interest to the space but again it depends on the overall layout and scheme. If you had some drawings of the kitchen it would be really helpful.
