Hi Sally! We love old brick too :) and finding it hiding behind plaster is like finding a treasure :-) However we need to be honest brick is absolutely the worst surface for a shower... The old brick and mortar are very porous. Especially with internal walls because it was pretty common to use a lower quality brick for interior applications where they'd be covered by other finishes than on the exterior of the structure. Very suspect able to water absorption and impossible to keep clean ( too many crevices). Putting glass / plexi in front of this will not stop moisture from getting in between the brick and glass. Our recommendation would be to keep it on a feature wall and use nice tiles that work with the brick for the 'wet' areas. Also ensure you have good ventilation. Hope this helps! Best of luck with the project. The Opun Team

The best advice I could give is to build the units that are against the wall out by about 15cm and then create a raised shelf. Not only would this provide a good place to store oils etc, but that amount of gap is enough to possibly keep a lot of splashes away from the wall. We did this in our kitchen and tiled the wall with riven slate tiles. Three years on we haven't got around to putting up an extractor fan, but the wall looks the same and is unchanged. We sealed them with a stone sealer and put lights above to highlight the texture.

Sorry not sure, but I'm assuming there's a good reason for there being two types? Maybe its something to with fumes or toxicity? In which case its the interior one is probably a better option, Best to check with the manufacturer.

That explains the “rustic” finish. If it were a full height wall it could look really good, but as it’s such a small area it just looks untidy. I’m not sure re-pointing will make much difference as the bricks are different sizes and rather higgledy piggledy in layout. I think plastering will be a huge improvement.
