Exposed brick wall splashback

Hi. I am planning a new kitchen with an exposed brick wall (in brick effect tiles). It will have the hob along this wall. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not to fit a clear Perspex/acrylic splashback over the tiles to help keep this area clean? TIA

Either use a clear glass splashback or varnish it. You definitely need something.

The best advice I could give is to build the units that are against the wall out by about 15cm and then create a raised shelf. Not only would this provide a good place to store oils etc, but that amount of gap is enough to possibly keep a lot of splashes away from the wall. We did this in our kitchen and tiled the wall with riven slate tiles. Three years on we haven't got around to putting up an extractor fan, but the wall looks the same and is unchanged. We sealed them with a stone sealer and put lights above to highlight the texture.

Avoid a very pale, light blue as this will look cold. Maybe a rich blue with a hint of green or red would work or go all out as per the image from tumblr attached. The floor looks very light anyway so could look great and choose light coloured bedding (or does he want that blue too?!) Go for a roller blind or shutters on the window so as not to cancel out any daylight. Take a picture of the whole room and play around with the Dulux visualiser app so you can see what looks best (takes a few attempts to get it working so good luck!)

I'm not sure if you mean the same stuff but you can buy it in sheets, you usually screw it into the wall where the grout would go then you mix up a little sand and cement and put it in between the bricks

Hi Ant, I guess it depends on what type of look you are going for in the room. We have recently put flush brushed stainless steel throughout our renovation project for sockets and switches but we have more of a rustic / modern look opposed to very industrial. If the look you're aiming for is quite industrial then the surface mounted might look good. Hard to say without knowing a bit more :)

These were put in our house 14 years ago - started marking about 6-7 yrs ago and now just before I take them out I can mark with my finger nail. Think the quality of the black sockets are better now. Love the half wall ... and the industrial tiles that have been suggested. It’s going to look great!

you can also treat the brickworks with specific waterproofing/sealers products to keep it more "rustic" effect

If its a gas hob you wouldn't be able to use a perspex or acrylic splashback, it would have to be a glass splashback.
