North facing room

We have a north-facing bedroom in a chalet bungalow with a small window so essentially it's dark in there! It's my step-daughter's room who is now in her mid-twenties but the decor hasn't changed for about 15 years. I'd like to redecorate it before her next visit. The headboard is a black fabric, she likes white bed linen and the furniture is pine so I thought grey would work - I'm going for the sophisticated look! There will be a lot of white because of the sloping ceilings. Is grey the way to go? And what shade will work?
