Hello! How would you describe your design theme? Traditional with a touch of elegance? Family Room less elegant with dining room having elegant flair? I'm using elegant with crystal chandeliers in mind. Is this right? Slate is more of an Arts & Crafts or a Rustic element. Are you wanting to stone the entire west elevation from the ceiling to the floor? Hi E D, I think it was Farrows Cream but can’t quite remember. We had it in our bedroom previously (the proper version). This was for a rental and colour match was awful, but we stuck with it. Within 6 months walls were terrible... could have been rowdy tenants 😉 but had previously used Dulux with no issues ... why did I change! Will never use again. Also tried a tester post of Johnstone’s own colour range in lockdown and didn’t like the finish or colour on that (that was for a window) ... I’m obviously not in the Johnstone’s loving it camp, 😄

I have a stone cottage which was remodelled in the 70s including 'thinning' the external stone wall to put in a shallow bay window, meaning the original ceiling beams no longer rest on the stone wall. Additional short sections of beam were fastened to the side of the original beams to extend them to the thinned wall. These are not fastened to the wall in anyway, just balanced on a stone or brick on top of it. It has lasted 50 years without issue, but just to be on the safe side I have put in a steel beam which sits under the original beams and goes into the stone wall at either side (where it is still the original thickness). What is the best way to secure the steel to the stone wall? Is it ok to cement it in or would that potentially cause any problems? I'm having cement render roughcast removed from the house and replaced with a lime render, so seems a bit mad to be adding cement to the wall, but it is only two small areas and not sure lime mortar would be strong enough around the beam ends or if it would corrode the steel.
