Hi. I would either build a window seat and put the dining table in the bay or centre the table to the window/room and then have a sofa against the radiator where the ironing board is (with a small side table and floor lamp). I'd keep the floor and use a rug, when the baby is older it will be much easier for clearing up. Go for either built in cupboards in the alcove for toy storage or use white cabinets with doors or even wardrobes so everything is out of sight. I'd choose a white scheme for walls and use a mix of either bright or pastel colours to lift it for cushions, lights, rug etc so it looks fun and contemporary and appeals to both adults and kids. Paper the chimney breast with something that is contemporary but will again appeal to kids something like a scion paper for example. I'd use blackboard paint on the door ŵall behind the table. Until the baby is older write or draw wine names or bottles or similar! and put an oilcloth on the table for crafts. Choose contemporary art, maybe typography and some fun prints.

Having had time to 'play' on the floor planner, I came to realise that gaining the two things that you would like the most, storage and an extra loo, were not that easy. If you go with my original idea of moving the entrance it does make for a much larger master bedroom ( gaining storage ) Going in to the Workshop from the house leads to more storage and the possibility of a guest room, which you also wanted. I think the only way to gain a lot of space and storage is to build the porch and it makes sense that if you were going to do that, you'd make it large enough for plenty of storage for the coats / shoes etc. At the same time ( as it would be cheaper and easier ) you would also build a utility room on the same patch as the porch at the rear of the kitchen. Instantly gaining huge amounts of storage. I know that you didn't want to extend, however, the plan allows for a re-jig without the porch or utility and for these to be added if you re-consider. I don't think the layout lends itself readily to a staircase in to the loft. You could put a staircase at the bottom end of the lounge, however, i honestly think the money would be better spent on a porch and utility. They take on board what you want, have a good old re-jig as above and come up with various ideas. They can then blow them up in 3d and give you a 'virtual ' walk about, so that you can visualise more easily what it will look like. I've done everything 'roughly' to scale and used full sized objects for the rooms, so you get a rough idea! You do need to start with a budget as Jonathan says, otherwise you can have all the grand plans in the world, but if the money isn't there, you need to taper the ideas.

Just a cheap but effective solution. We also have a kitchen / diner in an L-shape with a small lounge area attached.................all open plan. We have one large radiator that was heating it. Firstly, I notice that you have no curtains on the window in the middle. All the curtains ( including the window ) should be thermal backed and as thick as you can get to stop the heat going out of the glass. Secondly, the little radiator in the middle of the double doors doesn't look like it is large enough to have an adequate heat output for the size of the room, so I would change that. There are charts on line to work out the size you need, or if you enquire at any decent plumbing merchants, they'll work it out for you. Adding a good depth window sill to under the window will help prevent heat loss up and out of the window too. We bought a ceramic radiator to plug in, in the conservatory as a back up to our larger radiator and it works a treat! Really slimline too. However, the biggest saving on the heat loss is our curtains, which are really, really thick, make sure they cover the sill.

Thanks @Jonathan! The way you've set out the kitchen looks a lot better than we had thought about. We originally were thinking that we didn't want to lose the playroom, but moving the loo and utility to there could definitely be an option. Re the ensuite, we would use whichever room it went into as the master. We're not sure whether it would be easiest/cheapest to put it into bedroom 1 and use some of the massive cupboard space, or 2 and take some floorspace from the main bathroom.
