It's a lovely table. it is elegant enough to go in a formal setting and simple enough to look good in a more informal room. As a result I would look at the room it is going in. If it is the one you have pictured, I would go for more formal looking dining chairs.

Hi, I think a mirror with rounded edges or circular would go well in here. It will soften the room given your furniture are straight lines. That little table looks very cottagey attractive as it is and the chairs go well. I can imagine you would like to have something more modern for a new apartment. The colouring below would work well in your room and if the table is not too large (as this one is) it could be pushed against a wall for most of the time. It is difficult to tell what happens in the room. In the future you might have a larger dining area where you can have a modern table, but that little round table will always find a place; maybe displaying family photographs; a base for a lamp and large bowl of flowers; maybe in a bedroom for displays or having a decorative, or heavy linen to-the-floor tablecloth with jute trim. If you paint it, don't make it brown, as it will look like an apology. You could pluck out the deep red lacquer from your rug, or go with a mid-to-deep French grey-blue.
