As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. I'm not sure if they exist as that's too narrow for two place settings + any space in between. Can you do anything about the seating to save space? A bench or fitted seating etc?

I think you can make the table work without removing the bench. The bench I think goes nicely with the subtle rustic/country undertones of your kitchen - specifically the panelling under the breakfast area/island. Ok, so I have attached a few pics that I have created on the homebyme website. Pics show the floorplan and a possible room layout. This is to be a kitchen/diner. The space is currently there, it just is 2 separate rooms at the moment and we will be removing walls to create this space. Top wall in pic is 5m, of which will be 3.6 m sliding doors to garden. We originally had island parallel to the run of units along the left side wall. We have now rotated so it is perpendicular to the run of units. Behind island is staircase, underneath which will be fully built in, units to include fridge freezer and larder. The distance I have allowed between the back of the island and the understairs storage is 1.2m, would this be enough should there be someone sitting at a stool, and would I still be able to open a cupboard behind? Any suggestions more than welcome! The left side wall is 4.55m til the doorway, this run of units needs to include sink and cooker and at the end I have put in the pic full height tall unit to hold washing machine and boiler. I would like a bit of symmetry with that run of units, but just been playing about with it tonight! Could this work? Thanks for looking!
