fitted bookcase dilemma
Comments (5)Hi I'm looking for advice to get light into my dining room. its a1960s bungalow that has had a huge extension at the back. this had made the middle of the house very dark. I was thinking of making the window on the right full length and adding a full length window to the right of the fireplace. we obviously plan to replace the fireplace! I would welcome any other thoughts. thanks...See Morepossible bookcase for darkish mid century living room
Comments (3)Thanks so much for these responses! Yes string shelving would be a great idea and would add lightness to the room while keeping the style. Unfortunately the external wall is also insulated with plasterboard because of damp problems so it would be quite complicated and risky to hang anything on it. I have now bought a Brouer Mobelfabrik rosewood bookcase for the one side . After it is in place, I will have to see whether an additional piece would work for the other side But all these are good ideas as I have another room with an internal wall where primary colours and string shelving would look great Thanks for your advice!...See MoreBookcase wall, what to do with cornicing?
Comments (10)I too would find a different bookcase. In fact find a decent joiner and have one made. We had ours built out of mdf and then added trims because we don't have cornicing. It cost me £160 in mdf and £185 for the joiners labour for a day. I then spray painted it white... You can literally have it as you want it and if you're after glass doors, any decent joiner could add them into the design....See MoreWhat colour bookcase?

How about painting the one you have either in white or a shade to fit in with your bedding, curtains and flooring? This is a section of one of my very tall bookcases!...See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
