We are converting and connecting two flats into one. The idea is to uncover an exposed brick wall on the stairs leading to the upper floor and in the kitchen area (open plan kitchen on the upper floor). Unfortunately, after exposing the walls we realised that the upper floor was built later on and the brick colour is different, more yellow. Downstairs is the typical reddish brick wall. We are not quite sure how to deal with the obvious difference of colours: avoid it by plastering the stairs, which reduces the overall wow effect, accepting the difference of colours and leave it as it is or painting the brick (not a good choice for my partner as he likes the natural richness and variety of tones of the brick). Any advice is welcome! Cristina

Hi. I might look at something with warm green undertones. Perhaps f&b cord or string? You add deep red accents as shown or green. For Little Greene I'd look at Portland stone or Stone pale cool but I think they have a few colours that will work with new white

Such an interesting room full of gorgeous pictures and books. I love books! Now colours that I think would look lovely with your blue curtains are the soft pastels - green, pink and pale yellow, but you want a deep cosy colour so let’s move on! I’m a little bit obsessed with dirty pinks at the moment, a world away from Barbie pink so don’t panic. Colours like F&B Setting Plaster or Little Greene’s Dorchester Pink, or Blush which is much darker and cosier. I also like deep stone colours such as LG Roman Plaster, or if you wanot to go even darker, Silt looks nice, very organic tones. I’ll try and find some pics. I’ve no idea how to photoshop, but I’m sure someone will!

Ah thank you. I used dye from Dye Brick - https://www.dyebrick.com/ - for both the bricks and the mortar. They were super quick to deliver. My top tip would to be more patient than I was!! I should have spent more time finding which colour was best... and then sticking to it rather than changing my mind :) After a bit of testing I used a 50:50 mix of two of the colours available. And what I should have done is applied the soot wash mix (a separate product) afterwards... what I did do was mix them all together hence I just got a browner mix rather than the orange I wanted. Sometimes I can be a real idiot!! But I have a little dye left and having looked at bricks around the green door pic that Carolina has attached I may try and do a few more orange and some pure soot ones to get a bit more variety in colour rather than it being so uniform. Porch cost me about £80 to dye. Could possibly be done cheaper if you didnt need so many brick colours (Red, orange and soot) and didnt need to do the mortar too.
