Could I set back my cooker into the chimney breast?
Comments (2)Oh dear ! That's a bit of a mistake to put an appliance next to one of those types of corners - but to do it twice is a disaster !! A simple solution, might be to move the right cupboard into the place where bins are and put open shelving either side of the cooker - as then the door will be able to open father back in one side - it wouldn't work with just moving the end cabinet to there as the drawer handle would still clash- even if you changed the door handing to move the lower handle out of the way - simple shelves you can buy from somewhere like ikea or a local kitchen shop ?! and the door should open back further - different hinges might help too (not sure which they have put on ? ) Then re use the stone top either side of the cooker and buy a new deeper top ( chopping block might be nice ) over the recessed bit do you have a deep worktop with the cupboard still in line and space for a bin next to it ?!...See MoreChimney Breast - to keep or not to keep?
Comments (0)Hi there. So, I'm redecorating and having a kitchen extension. My thin Edwardian house has a through lounge and dining room, each with a fireplace, but with narrow recesses (middle wall was knocked through before I moved in). The lounge has an original fire surround, the dining room with opening only. I'm thinking of having the chimney in the dining room removed (as well as the chimney in the small bedroom above it), but my question is, should I keep both chimneys to make it look even or does it not matter? Access to both rooms is via one door from the hallway into the dining room. Thanks very much....See MoreSamsung Frame TV on Chimney Breast - How to Style?
Comments (13)Thanks all! I really like the Serif, but I'm just not sure our living room allows for it. In addition, kids may be on the horizon so I think fear also plays a part! @Sarah U-S, thanks for the comment regarding the cable. I just see a video actually where the installer ran it behind a stud wall - however recommended not doing so for brick (our fireplace is plastered brick). That being said, we were thinking of doing something like the photo below, with cabinets built into the alcoves and perhaps even across the front of the chimney breast. Our thinking is that if the cupboards in front are kept very narrow it will not take too much space and we might be able to use the chimney opening to increase the depth a little. In this 'solution', we;d put The Frame sitting just above the cabinet at a sensible height, then pictures above say (as per @minnie101 's comment). The cable would presumably be able to run just a very short distance down into the cabinet, which wouldn't be so bad? Might even be able to hide it with a tiny ornament/plant in front...?...See Morekeep chimney breast or mot??
Comments (12)We lived with a fireplace that stuck out into the room like yours for years . I hated it as it seemed to dominate the room and made placing furniture difficult, however we never considered removing it ( even though it was not used ) as it was a chimney that went right up through our bedroom too . Then a few years ago a builder friend explained that it wasn’t that big a job and we would gain space . So we had it removed all the way up to the roof . It’s the best thing we ever did . Visually both the sitting room and bedroom appeared bigger and squarer ....See Morejennifercairn
