Thanks I'm thinking grey walls, what do you think ?

The carpet looks fab, the "problem" is definitely the yellow tone in the walls. I would change them to a cool white (I think grey with silver carpet would be overkill personally).

I'm definetly edging more towards grey than white , would it be better silk or Matt grey though ? ( you have instantly made me feel better about my carpet choice

Definitely the magnolia walls are at fault- in the picture they look peach.
Just choose a more contemporary neutral.
Grey works but so would lots of pale colours like brown, green and pink.
Nice luxurious looking carpet btw.

If you want a fabulous grey that is bordering on white then the Farrow & Ball 'Strong White' is perfect! I was recommended it and have used it all over the house. It's the palest of greys and just takes the edge of stark white.

White does look good against the grey though so perhaps keep some white in there for contrast and defiantely ditch the cream tones.
Ps you can get that colour mixed by other companies as I can't afford F&B paint right now

Sorry - I mean the strong white as an accent colour as it should go with the darker greys.

Greys I have found hard and I have 2 in my house that are mid to dark tones. It does depend on the room and the light of course.
Are you wanting a cool grey or blue grey? As dark as charcoal or lighter?

I'm thinking a charcoal colour as the carpet is very silver and ceiling and doors white I think it would work

F&B do one that was gorgeous. I started using it on my bathroom wall but chickened out as its dark and north and I thought it too black. I've seen it on a kitchen and it was a lovely true grey colour. Just trying to remember the name now! Argh.

Think it was Railings. down pipe is also popular. Have a look on their website for the colour and how it's used in the rooms. Someone else here might have used them and can advise...

Little Greene Paint Company Scree is a lovely colour.

A warmer grey for the walls could work better than a darker one in your case. There are a lot of pictures that you can find on Houzz. This one looked nice.

I think your artwork would get lost in a dark wall. strong white is really nice

I think the dark grey in the aspirational room you have shown works because the bed is dressed with white. Since your sofa is dark and you already have a wall with dark wallpaper (which I assume is staying) then I like the earlier suggestions strong white

I think your carpet will be fine, once you have got over the shock of things. What do you think to this. You don't have to paint every wall grey but I think having white paintwork and ceiling helps break up the colours and keeps it crisp.

Funny enough that's the photo I saw before I bought this carpet, I think that with a slightly darks shade of grey in the walls it will work great

Just to give you an idea this is what my lounge looks like at night ( with the old carpet ) I think the grey walls will help it , obviously the led lighting can be selected to any colour so I might change that to white once the walls are done

Looks great carpet.. Maybe something a porcelain white.. Not to white. But softer than the magnolia ... Or like you said .. Soft grey... Plenty of colours out there.. Photos when completed.. If possible ..

It sounds like to me you have decided to paint it dark grey and just want someone to agree with you .. I agree with the others a lighter shade of grey would work better ... Paint one wall a lighter grey and then decide as you can always paint over again in a darker shade?

Like the carpet, but the walls don't go with it. However, as everyone else has suggested the walls are easier to change than the carpet. All grey might get very dark, I would suggest a couple of greys and whites. Farrow and ball do a really good range in these colours (I only know about these because I've been fantasising recently!), but Valspar at b&q do a good colour range. Also Timeless by dulux, it's a cream white rather than a beige. Get some sample pots and a roll of lining paper and hang samples around the rooms. Have fun! I'm assume no you wish to stick to greys because of your inspiration photo, but do look at other colours too. Stay away from the beige magnolias though!

colour can be very misleading in photo's can really only judge on site... nevertheless grey being a neutral should work with any colour, yellow may still be fine,,, but just softer tone... alternatively a bold sunflower yellow may work... really falls to what mood your trying to create.....drama or peace...

also the carpet has quite a mottled effect,, you might intoduce that in a very subtle dappled paint effect on the wall..

I'm going to start today and have decided on a grey but a lighter tone than originally stated. Will update progress as I go ... I have all week off work so intend to have it done by Friday ...wish me luck !

I'd go for a darker grey on the to tv wall, make it a feature and a warm pale grey on the other walls. Think different tones of the same colour.Perhaps add some teal or orange accessories? What colour is the suite?

I'd paint over with cheaper white paint first this will give you a better idea of what it will look like and make a good base for the grey, personally I would go for a light gray on 3 walls and a darker gray on one just to give a little accent possibly the wall you lookout when sitting looking at the TV.

I think the carpet looks brilliant. The yellow tone in the walks dont compliment grey. However I don't think dark grey walks will work. You already have a black feature wall paper wall and you have dark and black furniture. White or a very light grey would compliment the colours you already. If you are set on dark grey then you need to lighten up the room else where. Through soft furnishing I guess as you don't want to buy new furniture. Hope that helps.

Dulux have a very pale grey called 'White Mist' if you wanted to keep the walls light, but get rid of the yellow tones in the magnolia. It would look nice paired with a feature wall in a mid/dark grey.
We previously used it in hall, stairs landing when any mid grey would have made the space too dark.

Carpet looks very luxe!

I'd listen to these good people and not go for a dark grey as might want to hurt someone eventually.

Farrow and Ball have great colours which both Dulux and Leyland can mix for you in different finishes for a LOT cheaper. I personally went with their Diamond Matt finish as my nephews have given the walls a good beating.

Take a staggered approach.

Start with the lightest grey: Ammonite

Next comes Cornforth White which is slightly darker than Ammonite. It has a slightly blue tinge to it which I wasn't a fan of.

Darker still is Purbeck Stone but again I wasn't a fan as it lacked the warmth I was looking for.

or Go Warm Greys:

Light Beigey Grey is Skimming Stone I'd pick this for you as have a LOT of dark going on.

Darker but still warm is Elephant's Breath. This is what I'd go for if you're STILL set on going for a dark grey. If you do go dark, for God's sake lighten it up with accents so you don't get depression.

Get samples and paint on foam boards. You can get A4 foam boards on ebay for cheap.

Love the look of the carpet! Seems like fashion has evolved from magnolia to grey, we have had our kitchen living room done last year and took ages picking a paint colour but in the end Dulux Endurance (we have kids so wipe/scrub clean is best) in polished pebble fits the bill perfectly. Painted it on a sheet of paper first and chose it from a bunch of others similar- some of which are mentioned In other comments but it really is hint of grey rather than grey and white enough that your room won't look too dark or take on a drab feel. I've now put it in our snug room and will probably do the halls and stairs in the same- it's my new natural calico!

Got the living room and kitchen done today , went for one grey wall and rest white ... Looks pretty cool I think ....just the downstairs toilet and spare room left to do tomorrow ...

I need some help guys- I have opted for a dark charcoal carpet(looks like black) and I don’t want to keep white walls, what colour would best suit...I want the room to have a warm cosy feel too
