Uv protected walnut floor

Dear houzzers, I would love to have an engineered walnut floor running throughout the hallway, kitchen and living room but I'm worried it will fade near the bifold doors as we are south facing.
Is it possible to get uv protected walnut or is there some kind of coating I can put on myself to stop this from happening.
I realise that some form of blind will help but I don't think this will solve the problem ultimately as the blinds won't be drawn all the time.
Any help greatly appreciated thank you x

Hi Gabby - yes I noticed that as well re the notifications!! Ridiculous! Maybe there is something in settings that stops that otherwise I will just have to unfollow everyone, urgh. Whats the name of the one you liked from the samples? There was some nice Karndean BUT they were well out of our price range so it always depends on your budget of course. We wanted a warm but neutral floor and this one looks both warm and cool sometimes. Originally I wanted a rich warm floor to balance out the grey but the orange tones clashed with the units and made them look too blue/retro so we decided to go with this one instead.

We are just fitting our kitchen in a new 8 x 4m south facing extension with 2.4m high x 6m wide bi-folds and have 2 x skylights. I am worried about the fading so we had laminated glass put on the outside of the doors (rather than 2 x panes of toughened glass). It's supposed to block most of the UV rays that cause fading. The rooflights aren't directly over the kitchen furniture but there must be some sheer blinds you can fit that have a UV filter and won't block out the light? Thinking when it's super hot and sunny they would be used. My floor fitted said that as long as you buy a UV stable LVT (should say on the product) and it's fitted with a heat stable glue (to allow for contractions) then there shouldn't be an issue. Not saying it won't happen but will see how our dark kitchen lasts!

If it's dark wood... it's dark wood. It's nice to preserve an original feature but sometimes it just doesn't work anymore so it's time to update. If it was a mistake to use such a dark floor in a dark hall you shouldn't have to live with that mistake just because it's old. Option 1. Remove it and use it elsewhere in the house. Some of it can be used to make furniture or a wall feature. Replace with light floor of your choice. Option 2. Leave it as an original feature but cover over it with a new floor. Laminate / carpet etc. It's always there in case you want to bring it up again at a later date. Option 3. Use stain on it as required and accept that it's a dark floor. Use light paint on the wall and a large runner down the middle to cover enough of it so it doesn't have as much impact. Think of other ways to brighten up the hall e.g. increase the glazing in the front door or the door into the kitchen, remove the small wall next to the kitchen door and replace that with a glass panel, use mirrors, add artificial lighting etc.

Hi Hu, Definitely looks like the sun/uv has warmed the oak up, like with most natural woods they will change colour over time. You could consider oiling the floor lightly on both sections but concentrating mainly on the lighter area as this will darken the wood slightly. I would suggest sanding if it was a solid oak floor, however as it's a 3mm solid (I'm guessing on this) I wouldn't risk sanding it. Definitely consider oiling it and if possible I would remove the rug for a while especially on brighter days to allow the colour to even out. I hope you are able to sort it.
