Kitchen advice please

Thinking of taking out the window and replacing with a french door ( it's a south facing garden so very sunny) plus taking out he utility to make a larger kitchen (turning part of the garage into a laundry room).

Weve started work altready but wondering if it's a mistake to use the garage as a utility and lose the existing utility to extend the kitchen.

Advice please as these are our plans from a design app we downloaded

and we have no experience in design .

The kitchen size is 2.96m x 4.87 (which is including the utility.

If you decide to resell later buyers will not like laundry room in the garage

I'd lose the side door and put in doors from the dining room to the garden. Knocking through will actually give you less cupboard space as you currently have a whole wall for base + wall units. If you knock through, you'll prolly have an island losing all the wall cabinet storage. You'd then need to spill the kitchen into the dining room changing it into an eat-in kitchen rather than preserving a more formal dining room. All boils down to personal preference and lifestyle.

I agree with Forzaitalia and I think you might be able to find a local company who can come in and spray paint the doors and fascia panels, etc., to a colour that suits you. It will make a huge difference and the cost may well be affordable for you as opposed to replacement.

I think my only issue with the sink on the island is it looking messy in the time between cooking and washing up! I wondered whether having a small sink on the island and then washing up sink under the window? Although I am now tempted by idea of an island as main part of kitchen and replacing window with doors to garden. Thanks to this thread I do now understand the problem!!

So, has the approach to your property changed at some point? Because I would expect your entrance hall and front door to be at the front and not at the back? Could you turn it around again? If not, maybe move the front door to what is now the kitchen, making the kitchen part entry hall and part utility (dividing wall). Then you could perhaps create one large kitchen/diner/family space from the current utility, office and family room. The current dining room could be an office? Obviously all depending on whether all that would be possible re: load bearing walls and all that.

I disagree. If there is access between the garage and kitchen, it wont be a problem. I'm not convinced you need French doors and a single 'back door' - overkill in a relatively small area.

The small back door in the kitchen will be bricked up and we will have a window in it's place. The new utility will be off the hall, through a door which is currently through to the garage. The front of the garage will be used for storage (lawnmower etc) it's the rear of other garage that will be converted to a utility by a builder. Will that put future buyers off?

I'm a great believer in the adage 'Houses are for nesting, not investing'. If you did everything in your house to please potential purchasers, you would have a very boring, mundane, uninspired functional box. Do what YOU want to do and knickers to someone that may or may not buy your house at an undisclosed time in the future.
