Wall space

After some advice on how best to decorate these two walls in our open living room. I'm thinking of a single large piece of art on the back wall behind the couch and on the other wall which is part of the hallway through to the master bedroom, a collection of various prints in different frames. Would love a buffet somewhere or console table but not sure if these would work with this space. Also planning on getting a larger rug in maybe a shade of blue/grey or black and white geometric style pattern and a coffee table (timber/glass). I love Scandinavian style and light fresh colours and tend to prefer art with blues/greens in it. Any advice is much appreciated including whether to rearrange furniture. Thanks!!

How about an oversized mirror? You could lean it up against that back wall which would be rather interesting 8ft x 6ft and there's a shop on ebay that sell them this big.. (You can then paint it to blend if you like with the wall colour).. Not only reflecting even more light but it's a gr8 focus to a room.. What about then swapping the sofa and armchair around the distance between the chair is good from the wall as you could have a console behind it for example with something interesting on it.. Or lamps or something purely decorative...

You might then situate the floor lamp in the corner of the two with perhaps a table lamp on that side table you have that has magazines on it..

You could further define the room with a coffee table.. The black chair could be in the opposite corner (dining side) facing the seating and thus you have chairs that face each other ready for conversation.. : ))

Hello, I'm not sure where exactly would you like to add shelves, above the stairs or side walls? At the moment it looks like an empty canvas and it's true that you can do lots with this space. If I was you I would consider adding a large framed artwork, multiple framed images, mirror, wallpaper, lighting design or a colourful carpet for the stairs. StJames Design Interiors

An art worked wall paper would be good behind here. You could choose to print your garden or another as a trompe L'oeil on the wall as if an open space using textured wallpaper or sealed vinyl. The effect would be fun and customised to what you wanted. A horizontal wide stripe would also work well in this space. We do a range of wallpapers, some self adhesive, others with water application or the regular paste. The design would be your choice from a gallery of images or that you had designed. Should you decide on shelving etc we can also print onto wood which may be a fun surround. Hi Lindsay, I don't think that your mirror is too big but as Fiona said it's a bit lonely on the mantle. You might want to "anchor" it, below is an example of what you can do. I don't have a software to do this so I used paint, hopefully you can look past the badly executed demonstration and see the idea behind all this ;-) Basically you want to balance the mirror with other pieces and give a bit of height to the whole look. I took the lamp and decorative lantern from the Houzz shop and tried to keep with a style that you might like, but obviously this is just to show you what you can do. I also 'painted' the inside of the opening black so you can see what it would look like after you remove the gate. Have a nice evening :-) Mehdia
