We have just created a textured wall for a photo shoot. Turned out really well. Has anyone done anything like this, would love to see some shots.

I'm a huge fan of texture in a property. A small amount can really add a unique detail to a room especially a kitchen. There are so many interesting options available and it can really enhance the natural beauty of timber.

I've seen a property with a product like the one pictured over much of it and the gaps between runs (which look a different colour) plus the finishing of corners made it look quite bad. In my opinion. As a Gold Medal Winning Garden Design perfectionist.

I agree remove the wallpaper. It’s quite hard work but certainly not difficult. You will then be left with a plastered wall that you can paint. Use a very Matt which seems to disguise any lumps and bumps more than something with a silk finish. Most paint firms do a nice Matt emulsion. Dulux is a perfectly good cheaper paint, or Johnson’s will mix any of the posh brands at a much reduced price. Wickes also do some nice colours. If you decided to paint the wallpaper it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I did that when we moved into our first house as we were poor as church mice then. However, it will make the wallpaper much harder to remove in the future. If the walls look a bit tatty, have the more public areas skimmed such as the living room. Plasterers in my area charge £250-350 a day, depending where you are, but you will be amazed how much they can do in a day! Leave the bedrooms unskimmed but painted until funds are available. I still have a wallpapered ceiling in my bedroom which I can’t face stripping down! It’s painted white so not too horrendous. With the kitchen just paint the units. It’s a bit labourious but it will lift the whole scheme. Luckily the worktop is white. The tiles could also be painted with a tile paint. A home can be tarted up quite cheaply with a few tins of paint and it’s something anyone can do, then when funds allow you can look at replacing the kitchen etc. Good luck with it all.
