How to add texture to my family room

My family room is basically a reception room with an open planned kitchen along with dining space and some lounging space.. I have chosen day colours(white and teal) for it (Which I really love) but the problem is room looks amazing in daylight but in night it gets dull and boring.. Pls suggest ways to make the room equally exiciting in night As well.. I believe the texture is missing here..

8 years agoYes you are correct. All your surfaces and finishes are shiny and reflective ... Plus blue is cold colour. Room is looking v good though, nice work so far.
You could add yellow, compliment to blue for some movement, not too much yellow though. You could mirror the morrocean theme with something such as the below.

I think it may look better if you moved the clock to a different wall, otherwise it might look like you are trying to match the clock on the second chimney breast. Comments (4)I would choose one wall to wallpaper as a feature wall, perhaps the wall that spans the lounge and dining area as that is well lit. I recently redecorated my kitchen diner and, like you, I wanted to add interest without making it look too busy. I chose a slate-effect paper in dark grey; it looks so effective that I am about to paper the window wall on my staircase with the natural/brown version. There are some fabulous trompe l'oeil papers on the market - what about a wood block effect, a leather-look or a faux library? I found all of these on eBay... Comments (6)I'd probably remove the metal splashback behind the hob, as I think it'd look more streamlined. However I've noticed that it comes down further than the very small upstand that's currently there, so if that will annoy you then perhaps just leave it!
