l-shaped living room. Want to add cosy wallpaper
Comments (4)I would choose one wall to wallpaper as a feature wall, perhaps the wall that spans the lounge and dining area as that is well lit. I recently redecorated my kitchen diner and, like you, I wanted to add interest without making it look too busy. I chose a slate-effect paper in dark grey; it looks so effective that I am about to paper the window wall on my staircase with the natural/brown version. There are some fabulous trompe l'oeil papers on the market - what about a wood block effect, a leather-look or a faux library? I found all of these on eBay... Good luck and do, please, post before & after pics when you have finished....See MorePlease help to add colour and personality to my family kitchen!
Comments (21)Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!...See MoreDark grey kitchen/living room - wall paint colour?
Comments (0)I have a small open plan kitchen/living room that I'm struggling to settle on a paint colour for. The cabinets take up most of the wall space in the kitchen area and are a dark, reflective grey with a minimalist design (similar to: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d0/4d/69/d04d69bab448e2a5d141e63c1bd8b0f2.jpg) The countertops are a white granite speckled with grey and black. My key colour is orange which I have for some appliances and small things. I've put up a backsplash of simple white tiles that covers the walls about a foot above the countertops. The living room furniture is a mix of dark grey/black fabrics and metal work with mid-tone natural wood (similar to the first on the left here: http://floorsandldn.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Swatch1.jpg). The flooring throughout is in the same tone of wood. I would like to be bold and go with a dark grey (e.g. Ink from Neptune https://www.neptune.com/interior-decor/paint/ink-paint/) on the walls, but I'm having trouble finding a tone that will work with the cabinets, which change so much depend on what light they're reflecting. This is making me think I should instead go for a mid- or light grey, but I don't want to tone it down so much that it loses the impact and ends up not working! I'm keeping the ceiling and skirting boards white and using a lot of light/white cushions and throws to stop it becoming too dark. Any help much appreciated as it's been far too long I've been dithering over this!...See MoreI’m not sure what floor to choose for my kitchen/living room
Comments (4)I suspect the cabinets are blue (grey is a meaningless word to desrcibe a multitude of desaturated colours, but most are actually blue/grey or blue/violet/grey or green/grey etc). I would balance the cool of the cupboards with the oak flooring (bottom image) and repeat oak items around the kitchen. 'Grey' can look sophisticated when balanced with other colours but a bit overbearing when it's overdone. A balance of 'warm' and 'cool' is always a good idea....See MoreLondon Mosaic
