They are two separate rooms. Blue velvet sofa and dining table in one room. I have a three, two and two in light grey with rug. Lamp on table left by mistake. Was in the process of cleaning. Got the house three weeks ago. Thank you comments

I really love the wall paper behind your blue sofa where is from please? As for softening I'm no expert so I don't really have any suggestions as such just a comments that there doesn't seem to be anything personal on show? Perhaps a few pictures may help or somewhere to display your personal bits and bobs? It looks fabulous already.

I've also got a 1970's bungalow which I bought 3 years ago, painted all the walls white and added wooden flooring. Although my style is more eclectic rather than industrial I've softened it with large green plants and old art work which I bought on ebay and gumtree. Recently I've bought a couple of side tables and really loved this one from Westelm which I think would be more your style.

The lamp on the dining table looks odd. I personally wouldnt put a rug under the dining table as thats asking for trouble unless its heavily patterned! I agree with something on the wall -suggest dramatic like maybe a painting or large mirror?

I love your style. If you are after industrial, geometric style then you do great. With the minimalist style if I was you I would ask myself e.g.: How many chairs I have got in the dining room and why? Answer: because I am having bigger family, or friends around, (or simply) I really like that table with that amount of the chairs. That is all great. Now - how many lights I have got in the dining room and why? Answer: because I don't know what else to put there or where else to put the lights and I like them. OK, do you really like it? If yes, leave it there, but if you feel like there is something not quite right about it, like light on the table while there is light from the ceiling, take one out (of course the ceiling light is absolutely gorgeous). As minimalist I wouldn't want anything which doesn't do any purpose, so dry flowers would go all out of my house. In your case I would use on the table long tray of succulent. It will make the room feel fresh (instead of dry). Or if you like fruit, I would put a large probably metal, glass, or porcelain bowl with fruit on in (avoid wooden container on wooden table). Very large rug under the table would soften the feel too, but if you prefer dining area without rug a have rug by the sofa (which that would be my choice) I I would put a large, textured, but simple tapestry on the wall and maybe large clock on the opposite wallpapered wall. In any room I would avoid flowers in the vase and instead I would get nice, large indoor plants, which are easy to look after (they are not that expensive too and make the home feel so fresh and alive/living.

I am sorry, I meant to say 'a long tray of succulents', also I forgot the bowl. Regarding to tapestry on the wall. If you like this idea and you don't find any large horizontal, simple tapestry you like, try to look for some rugs and just hang it on the wall with a simple, metal or wooden curtain pole. If the wall rug isn't blueish, but you like it and want to blend it with your blue wallpaper then paint large. blue rectangle behind the rug, so it makes kind of blue frame to the rug (hope I am explaining it ok).

Fabric on a window always helps to soften a room. In this case, since you have some vertical blinds, think about some lovely sheers down each side of the patio doors and windows. Sheers (voiles) come in some wonderful colours and textures, filtering the light without blocking it out. I would also change the shade on your tripod lamp, something with a bit more texture/colour. And plants. Looks like you have only recently moved in, I think the best style grows over time not over night!
