Hi Sarah, I think contrast usually adds a wow to any scheme. I think if your kitchen cabinet unit/doors are matt then go gloss on the floor tiles. I think if the cabinets are gloss then do a matt floor. Another consideration is how you want the room to feel. The polished gloss version will throw around more light and bounce off the surface. I recently had my very small bathroom re-tiled. We used the marble effect polished white/grey veined tiles. The light bouncing off everything feels so glamorous. Also when adding value to your home - adding space or adding light adds value.

Ah the joy of glossy floor tiles - my brother has the same and so regrets his choice for the very same reasons you’ve listed! I think it will be a huge, expensive, labouring job to remove them. They do look really nice though. I agree with E D, a nice big inside/outside rug may help. There are tons on the market and even Houzz sell them.

You could have a glass splashback as opposed to tiles. Far easier to keep clean. You could have a plain clear one, a sprayed one to your own colour choice if you offer the supplier a BS or RAL code or even look online for a more decorative one.
