You can't really change this as the pigment in some greys are blue. Any other grey in the room will just emphasise this. Perhaps a cool white bulb might soften it a bit but ultimately you'll need to repaint if you want to get rid of the blue tinge. I had to do exactly the same in my lounge as my grey looked too blue (dulux steel grey)

Hello Claire - Blackened by Farrow and Ball is very light, with a hint of blue grey. It has beautiful tones. You mention that the light isn't great - is it north facing by any chance? If so, you may want to be careful with using blue as it can be very cold in north facing light. Any other direction and go for it...

I've used a very old Dulux colour called Ice Storm 6. It's from the days when they had a colour and graded it by number in order of depth of that colour. The higher the number, the paler it was. It's very pale and depending on the light source, can range from a proper grey, to blue and violet shades. I've used it before and it's so easy to live with. I have a huge collection of coloured glass so I never use dark colours, they give me more than enough,lol. Also, I always use Dulux Diamond paint base - it's so hard you can literally scrub marks off of it! I don't have children but do plan on having a dog very soon!

I agree the grey-green colour is lovely, and it's quite restful so I don't think it would be too much if you wanted to do the whole lot in that colour. Also it would go very nicely with the parquet. However if you want to break it up, you could consider installing a dado rail and have colour under the dado and white/neutral above, or vice versa. You could even install panelling up to dado height. I don't know whether panelling or dado rails are strictly authentic for 1930s, you would have to check that, but I think it would look ok even if not authentic, as long as the style is simple. One more thought, are you going to carpet the stairs? (They look lovely bare but will be very noisy I imagine). If so I would advise choosing carpet first and then paint to go with the carpet - much easier than trying to match carpet to paint!
