Our house is almost identical in layout to the last picture above with the glass roofed conservatory, all open plan. We use the conservatory for the dining area, we have a little 'snug' area at the rear and and adjacent to that is the kitchen, and 'L' shape. Our conservatory just happens to be on the left not the right. We have a glass roof ( thermal - like this Thermo Glass ) and, not it's not cold. We have one radiator in the snug adjacent to the kitchen and one in the conservatory. The one in the conservatory is and electric one with a thermostat and only comes on if the other rad can't heat the 3 areas on it's own. This only comes on when it's particularly cold. We used to have a Twin wall type roof, and yes that was pretty chilly which is why we changed to the glass. We do have very heavy weight curtains that pull round the conservatory in the winter months to help with the cold coming through the glass windows as they are not thermal glass. I would add, that our conservatory has been up for around 20 years and 'posh' glass was not available in those days, so your glass may well have better insulating properties! Thanks for your ideas, Jen P. We did consider moving the stairs completely out of the room but it would have a huge impact on the rest of downstairs and upstairs, so we are keeping the stairs where they are. As mentioned, the pics show the stairs, with plasterboard wall infront. Currently the stairs are open into the room. We will want to build in storage and put integrated fridge freezer under the stairs, perhaps like this.... but are thinking of putting a wall there instead to conceal the staircase, with just an opening at the bottom, no door.

Hi all I have a galley kitchen that is 3m long that then opens up into a 3m extension. I am putting in a stud wall Inuit the galley to create a W/C. I understand a reasonable width of a W/C is 80cm. I believe a standard stud wall is 10cm so I planned/hoped we would therefore be left with 210cm of the galley. But my builder says to plan for 12–15cm loss to incorporate acoustic plasterboard which the builder says is suggested for a W/C separating a kitchen. What would you do?
