I can appreciate how very proud you are of your work and so you should be and I'm sorry this isn't what you want to hear, but whilst I can appreciate it would be wonderful for a bit of "theatre" when entertaining guests and how captivated they may be by the lighting display (although I'm not sure it would cut any ice with anyone I know), I'm at a bit of a loss to see how the kitchen would function every day as a working kitchen. I'm not a great fan of style over substance and I simply don't understand the odd, disjointed set up. For me the function of a kitchen is far more important than any amount of feature lighting or statement pieces. It seems the bit with the island, is all for show and the "back kitchen" is rather austere (and if you don't mind me saying) somewhat unappealing and quite grim to work in. Not least because the Cinderella kitchen appears to be poorly laid out with little thought given to function. All that said, if it were done for a client, I'm sure they were delighted with it.

To get the most bang for your buck I would leave the cabinets unpainted (because it’s hard to get a great finish as a DIYer and you could end up cheapening the look). Instead I would get rid of the orange tones by painting the walls a grey with a green quality, replacing the worktops with a laminate that looks like stone, a patterned lino will be a nice upgrade for the floor- again choosing grey and stone colours. Lastly I would get rid of the strip light and replace it with inset ceiling spots and under cabinet lights. Expect to pay £600 to have the worktop done (more expensive as the sink and hob have to be disconnected and reconnected), £300 for fitting lights and £200 for an inexpensive lino and laying. Painting the wall is a job you might well feel confident doing and you shouldn’t spend much on paint.

As you say it depends on how much money you want to spend, but with bespoke size cabinets and doors, they don't have to be overly expensive because they're only used where a standard size unit isn't suitable for what ever reason, so a design might only have 1 or 2 bespoke units. Without knowing the dimensions of the room its a bit difficult to work out but you can get freestanding fridge freezers only 500mm wide, is there room behind the door for this? if so then I can see how to increase your worktop space. If not is there room for something like a 300 or 400 wide larder so have more storage. I'd also have a look at what i presume is your boiler cupboard, does the boiler go all the way down to your worktop, could any pipework be boxed in and then have a cupboard just for the boiler above the worktop. Possibly change just the wall units and have taller 900 ones for more storage. The belfast sink base could be a lot better designed as its this thats making the washing machine so tight, it only needs to be a 600 belfast base and you could have a tray space on one side and a winerack on the other and more room for the washing machine (why are the doors the wrong way round so the handles are at the bottom of the doors?)
