How to remodel this boxy kitchen? (photos)
Comments (13)Hi Sara. If you want doors at the end I'd go for a galley with built in seating similar to this. Opposite way round for yours though with tall units (with appliances) and banquette on right. I'd just have base units on the left and stop them where the tall units opposite end if you want to keep the side door. I would look at moving the boiler though and you may have to change the dining room window as it looks low although there may be other ways to deal with this. I think french doors would be nice, perhaps painted in a dark shade?...See MoreKitchen and downstairs remodel - ideas?
Comments (9)Thank you for the replies and sketches. Sorry for the delay in replying, we are away at the moment and where we are doesn’t have the best internet connection. I do like the sketches, however it doesn’t really fit with the future plans of using the area as a second small sitting room in the future. Also, whilst I know it is definitely the trend to have large focal kitchens, I’m not sure we want to go any bigger, plus we wouldn’t want to access through the current lounge as that wouldn’t really work with where our TV cabinet and sofa currently are. I think we are wanting to keep all the walls as per our current plan, but just wondering if there are any changes we can make keeping this in mind? If not, we are going to proceed with the above. In terms of colour, as ours is smaller than the inspiration image, we want to slightly reduce the number of colours. The main units and unit surround the fridge will be light blue, with the small island being pink. The worktops will be a dark grey sparkly quartz. The flooring will will a light grey tile effect laminate and rather than using brown wall tiles, we are opting for light grey metro/subway tiles to match in with the floor. What do people think of this? I used an app just to give an indication of how the light grey looks (obviously not an exact match)....See MoreHelp with floorplan in new build kitchen/diner/living?
Comments (6)Hello, Wow how exciting about the new house! Congrats! I like your ideas and where it's going - I can definitely see how the corner sofa/snug area will work well. Is there a main living room/lounge elsewhere at the property? I would be a little worried that with the corner sofa and dining table across where the sideboard is (and being that area is your main walkway with glazed doors to the garden) that it may feel like a slightly enclosed space. You could definitely add a small peninsula breakfast bar with overhang for a couple of seats - I would do this around the small boxed in wall area and have the worktop scribed to it. I would then consider having a much smaller sofa and dining table similar to the show home layout. I think the first and your main idea is probably the best layout - I would definitely try and measure the space if you can (site/show home permitting) and see what space you are left with and how the walk though space feels. If there is anything else I can help you with please do let me know. Good luck with the house and I hope it all goes smoothly. Comments (17)Hi Amanda, There is certainly acres of space to do all you want to do, and more! As with so many others, I am not a fan of conservatories - baking in summer, freezing in winter and a permanent window cleaning nightmare. While garden rooms are great, I’d personally concentrate first on getting your kitchen/diner/entertaining/home office space absolutely spot on for your needs. If there is one room in any home which, well planned & executed, adds value, it is the kitchen(diner). Certainly well worth getting designs for the space made up to help you see the “art of the possible”. Last year, we undertook such a project (in a more compact space) to deliver a stunning handleless kitchen, island with Bob, with an extendible dining table coming off and a long dresser, stepped down to a large desk area. It has transformed the way the family use their home! If you are just looking for indicative concepts, OnePlan has a good reputation on Houzz. If you are looking to get closer to detailed plans & costs, then a kitchen specialist is the way to go. Naturally, I recommend seeking out good, local independent studios who are always more “design led” and “client centred”. Depending on where you are, I’d be more than happy to talk through options with you - if you are within striking distance, we offer a full design/supply/install service; further afield, we can DP design & supply (even to the Falkland Islands in the past!) or if it is just a detailed design you require, that too can be offered for a fee. Feel free to get in touch if we can assist at all even if just for a general chat. And I will look out some images from past designs that sought to use space in similar ways!
