Hi NYC, I have seen this problem before. Is the floor on joists or is it a solid concrete floor? If it's on joists you may have a real problem as it sounds as if the joists are bouncing under the weight. This is a very large island therefore very heavy. If the island is on joists and these are moving you need to underpin the floor by adding steel underneath or building up brick piers under the joists to stop the flexing. I would suggest you address this urgently. I would advise you to have a structural engineer look at it. If it's on concrete this shouldn't be such an issue (Hope you're on concrete) Assuming concrete there should not be any movement on the floor so the issue is with the flooring material. Check to see if it has been laid tight to the walls if so the flooring material will expand with any changes in temperature or moisture absorbed from the concrete. The floor should be laid with a gap between it and the wall then the skirting boards fitted over the top to cover the expansion gap. This way the floor can expand and contract without creaking or buckling. Hope that helps, Martin www.ange-martin.com

i love a perch on a stool at an island rather than having to always sit at dining table, but i'm not sure there is enough room between island and that tall (pantry/fridge?) unit behind it. i'd also want more room for the dishwasher. used to have a F&P drawer dishwasher (as a second dishwasher) and wouldn't recommend it - too annoying to load, hardly anything goes in unless your plates and dishes somehow fit really well. just annoying really. we only ever used it when we had guests and needed to use both, whereas i thought we'd use it for smaller loads - no point unless there's just 1/2 in the household. I think I'd lose the small units, keep the overhang, re-centre the whole thing and also move it slightly further from the hob - 120cm would be better so someone at the hob doesn't take up that whole space.

We had our kitchen renovation around 9 years ago & originally I wanted 3 hanging pendant’s over island & didn’t realise until kitchen fitted said that it wouldn’t be possible due to the extractor fan & steel plinth, so this was the best they could do. I have always felt that they didnt look right & was wanting to change them. Thinking of removing both & replacing with a cluster selection of lights where the light with the longest lead would be? Would love your advice thanks 🙏

Rotate the table so it align vertically then everyone on dining table can see the tv
