Mixing metals!

Hi, we are currently revamping our kitchen while extending but keeping cream (panelled) kitchen cupboards and solid oak worktop. Originally we had oak knobs on all doors. We will now have a large chrome American fridge/freezer and our tap is brushed chrome but I really would love brushed brass handles for my cupboards (we have brushed brass sockets and door handles). Will this look odd against the fridge and tap? Would brass look a little lost against a cream kitchen? I thought we could perhaps tie them in with brass lighting over breakfast bar! Any thoughts would be great! Thanks.

Comments (7)The appliances are also likely to be in stainless steel finish, would that count? I've already bought light fittings and they are not brass, they're glass with a black cord. The room will have a built in seating area and also has a music area with a piano and speakers etc, so the habfles will be continued down to that area which should help. I was going to have a black wall light above the piano, perhaps I could incorporate brass there. I did have my heart set on a particular one. Would a brass framed mirror help? Normally I would just have 1 metal as it’s safe, you can’t screw up but I am feeling adventurous. Ebay- yes I will be visiting most definitely. Black I know is in fashion and is good industrial look but now some comments have got me thinking about avoiding black and going for the antique brass hammered metal look in order to blend metals easier. Plus you can get nr black metal looking more aged which I think will work and in the future helps with restyling. Comments (5)Hi Catherine, I think it's ok to mix the two as there are lots of kitchen accessories like pots and pans and even kettles that have both copper with stainless steel finishes on them. I would say, if its only your handles that are copper, perhaps introduce it elsewhere too. Perhaps change the sockets to copper or add some copper or both copper and stainless steel accessories so there is something to bring them together. Comments (1)I would try stick to the same metal finishes in one space. You dont want it to look like you have made a mistake! Changing the metal finish throughout the house works, but I would personally keep one finish in the kitchen....See More

9 years ago- 9 years agoThank you for all your thoughts. I'm wondering would a lack fridge be a better option? These are another handle I quite like as an alternative to above and a better picture of the kitchen I will be re-using.
