Pendants and kitchen island

Our kitchen island will be 2 metres long. I really like some pendants which are 33cm wide.

How many pendants would people advise? I don't know if it would look cramped with 3 as they are relatively wide (and bright colours) but I know 3 is often said to give the best look (rather than 2).

Hi Verity,

They do say 3 is a magic number, but based on the size of the island and the width of pendants you might be pushing it a bit. It also depends on the size of the room. In a smaller kitchen 3 might look slightly crowded, while in a larger one they would look a lot better.

The best way to tell is to order 3 and see what looks best. You should always be able to return one if you choose to install only 2, just check the company's returns policy to stay on the safe side.

Hi Verity, I'd suggest doing exactly as Litecraft suggests. It's going to be a bit tight but it would be ideal to see what it looks like in the space so just confirm re the returns policy and see how it looks as some would work and others would be too much.

Maybe posting some images would help?

It really depends on how high your ceilings are and the type of look you are going for. Will they make a statement or are they purely functional? I'd usually go for pendants with fixed shades because I'm usually committing to a style and I've chosen something I truly love. However, you can get some beautiful glass shades from places like made.com . Hi, are you based in the states as you’ve posted on the Uk site? if so, you may get specific shopping suggestions on the US site. For what it’s worth I don’t think they’re updated. Do you have an extractor? I’m currently without one and my light (not glass) gets really dirty and I wipe it at least twice a week!

Hi. Yes, our first fix electrics are already in. Although, in theory, we should have been able to leave exact positioning until after the units were fitted (mid May), our ceiling is quite complicated: We have a hidden steel running down the centre of the room. So they have made special fixings in the ceiling, so that the pendants can still be fixed in the (hopefully!) best positions... We have one in the centre, then one equidistant between the centre and each end of the island. I think that should be ok. So they are about 750mm centres I think. They are slightly off centre, width ways, away from the hob side. Yes, too many big decisions. Not sure that I have made all of them right, but we are getting there. Current hold up are the bifolds, windows and doors. They are plaster boarding and plastering everything except for the reveals, but can’t finish or start the flooring until the windows are in. It’s giving me a bit longer to either about wall and kitchen cabinet colours 😱

That's great thanks for your replies. It will be quite a big space so maybe 3 will be ok in that case. I will check the returns policy too though, thank you
