Laminate flooring

We are looking for a laminate flooring to run through a kitchen dining area, hallway and living room. We would like something modern and not too dark, and importantly one that one show up the dirt too easily!

Hi Orla,

Over the years, we have had many good experiences with The Amtico Company, as they offer a wide range of high-quality laminate flooring in many collections. In particular, the Click range is easy to fit as it uses a special system where the pieces literally 'click' together. You can browse their colours (it sounds like you want a warm mid-tone, as this will both somewhat hide dirt and isn't too dark) at the link.

We've also fitted many Moduleo floors, and also had good experience with them. They also have a click-fit range! We've gone into a little detail about various laminate and vinyl brands on our site, if you'd like to browse some alternatives.

Hi Orla,

Have you considered a Wood Effect Tile?

They look amazing when down and we are finding more and more people go for it instead of the alternative due to its durability, UV protection and mainly its beauty.

Just thought i would stick my nose in. Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your advice, but to complicate matters we are going to be running the flooring lengthways down the room so that there is a seamless join from the flooring we are installing on the landing as we don't want floor bars joining the room thresholds

Oh Sonia. We have tried that already and it didn't go well. He walked away and basically said that he told us the floor wasn't level. To be fair in the middle of fitting it he said to me "your floor is off" but didn't offer a way to fix it. I responded with oh is it? And that was that.....he is saying it's nothing to do with how he fitted it.

There tends to be more waste with herringbone, so you will need to allow for this in quantity of flooring required as you often will need more flooring than when laid straight. Although it may look straightforward, depending on your room shape, it can be complex and very time consuming at the edges. Advice- Scotia beading glued to laminate flooring

You’re right to be cautious! Scotia beading is meant to be nailed or clipped into place, not glued directly to the laminate flooring. This is because laminate flooring expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes. If the scotia is glued to the laminate, it could restrict this natural movement, potentially causing the laminate to buckle or warp over time. Ideally, the scotia beading should be attached to the wall or skirting board, not the floor. That allows the laminate floor to expand and contract without interference. If you're worried about it, you might ask a professional to assess the situation and possibly remove the glue to avoid any future damage.
