Hi Daisy The space you’re creating looks very interesting and it’s good that you’re really thinking about the lighting. If you have the opportunity, I’d consider using downlighter/s to highlight the picture in the lounge, as that would be a direct form of light and can really pick out the artwork whilst doubling up as background lighting. In the far right of the image below, you’ll see a painting highlighted by a single downlighter that works really well within the space. Regarding the pendants in the dining area, whether they’ll provide enough light will all be dependent on which particular pendant you choose. For example a 100W glass pendant will offer more light than a 60W one. Regardless of the power though it’s always good to layer lighting in living spaces, so I’d consider having wall lights or 5amp lamp sockets on an extra circuit. These will help to create a lovely ambient mood, just right for when you’re socialising after dinner with a glass of wine in your hand! Hi Laurence, have you considered using recessed lighting uplights to shine up the wall. The reflected light will illuminate the whole room. I would suggest using high power LED Strip like our Samsung Strip, it is 1000 Lumens per Metre and draws just 8.2w of power. If you need it even brighter we have the 2000/m Lumen version. The effect uplighting will create will be less industrial looking than Corn Lamps. We would recommend going for a more vintage look to match the period aesthetic of the structure, but you could also get motion or light sensor lights that come on as it goes dark or detects movement.
