I don’t think the brass is the issue tbh. I’m not sure the surround colour works that well with the back piece of the fire nor too well with the wall. Do you have something red/pink in the room that is reflecting on the left hand side of the pic as it looks much pinker in that corner? What colour is the sofa and what’s the actual wall paint colour?

Hi Jessica - what a beautiful room. Well done on your labours so far! I'm an absolute sucker for 1930s fireplaces and I think you could make this a lovely feature. To my mind I'm not sure the current tiles are totally in keeping with a '30s property and some are missing anyway so I think this gives you carte blanche to look at alternatives. Have a look at this site for some possible inspiration. I'm not sure it fulfils brief of being budget friendly but there's some lovely looking tiled inserts for wooden surrounds. You can have them custom made so you could pick a colour to complement the rest of the decor in the room. http://www.c20fireplaces.co.uk/rfpi As a budget friendly stop gap you could pick a really nice wallpaper (maybe a foxed mirror tile effect) or tile effect stickers and then board out the fire opening with wallpapered/stickered panels? If poss I would try to keep the recessed shape rather than just a flat panel - if that makes sense? Then add something by way of a hearth and put a plant in an attractive pot in front.

I would like to rearrange the room but has the following requirements in mind. - The photo of Jesus should be placed somewhere important (like center of the room) because we use this as a prayer room as well. - The sofa is absorbing a lot of heat from the radiator so move radiator/sofa so the room can be heated up efficiently - Moving the TV to center of the room as I'm planning to install surrond sound system Just some ideas around how I can rearrange the room to achieve the above requiements would be appreciated. As I mentioned, I'm willing to making changes to the fireplace brickwork to achieve this.
