Fireplace Ideas
I'm renovating my living room and would appreciate some ideas around what can I do with this fireplace bricks. I'm want to keep the wood burner. However, I feel the brick work takes up a lot of space and dont really serve any purpose other than a rustic farmhouse style look. Can someone suggest ideas around what can be done to the brick work?

2 years agoIt does look rather overbearing. I would remove it but it will be quite a big and messy job unless you employ a builder. Otherwise you could paint it white?

Comments (18)For me it is the ceiling to floor tiled wall that can transform this fireplace, like on the pictures above. f the wall was to stay as it is, I'd change the fireplace hearth surround to a more compact one as it seems to take too much space as it is at the moment. Comments (2)Yes an oak top and painting the tiles sounds like a good solution if you just want it to look better / more in keeping with the rest of the room and you don't plan to use the fire. If you want to be able to use the fire then make sure whatever paint you use and mantlepiece top you install will be compatible with the heat from the fire and not combustible. As an alternative you could also tile over the top of it with something more modern looking but this would take a bit more skill and more cost - it would change the texture of it though and keep it fireproof (as long as the tiles you use are sufficiently heat resistant and suitable)....See MoreAshwin John

2 years agoI had a smaller brick fireplace which I never really liked. In the end we got my builder brother to advice on how to remove it and then put in a more classical one. It was all done on the cheap but even now I love it.
