Missmjbs I totally understand your angst, and here's what I would say. Your room looks great as it is, its definitely not offensive and I would happily have a cuppa and a chat in there. Saying that I agree that it needs more work to make it the place that you would totally love. My favourite type of interiors are those that look like they've evolved over a period of time and not the ones where the owner goes and buys everything to match and beautifully coordinate and call it done!! Don't get me wrong I admire these interiors a lot and tend to decorate my own spare bedrooms in this manner because its a lot quicker and easier. I think you should deal with one thing at a time instead of focusing on the overall picture and take your time deciding every single piece that comes in that room, don't rush it. Enjoy choosing and educating your eye by doing a lot of research. I live by a mantra as far as my interiors go, if I absolutely love it then it will work. And I think this is important because our living spaces should reflect us most of all and relate to us and our lifestyles. So tackle that wall because it seems to me its the thing that bothers you most. Get your colour or wallpaper up and live with it for a while, you will know if its right or wrong then if you feel it doesn't work then you can look for a tv unit as an alternative. I would be inclined to buy (ikea malm are a favourite of many style lovers) or indeed have a handy hubby build you a set of simple consoles and position either side. Use some art work above to fill the wall around the tv and make it less obvious stuck there on its own and a couple of lamps and I think that wall could become your friend. As for my upholstered ottoman thank you :) , it was a rescued orange pine coffee table from a local skip, upholstered it myself in a gorgeous quality zebra fabric to pull in the dark colour from my painted Chinese TV cabinet turned booze bar (wish I could replace it). The nail trim made it look like I bought it in an expensive shop and it takes our feet every day watching telly :) Phew sorry for the war and peace :)

You have some lovely pieces in this room. Have you got enough seating for your every day living? If so I would use the wall with the small console table to incorporate more concealed storage. A longer sideboard or wall hung units which you can still display on top of. You'd still have room then for your cute kids table and chairs etc. For me the one bit of colour over the fireplace is incongruous and I would consider doing the alcoves in the same colour if you still like it. By moving the tv to the other side of the fireplace (perhaps with your console table underneath), you are bringing it to the seating area and it won't stand out so much, especially with a darker background. The radiator is awkwardly placed but a radiator cabinet and some floating shelves above would balance out the tv in the other corner. If you like the mirror I would turn it round to portrait style and perhaps consider spray painting it (copper? to match the Base of your floor lamp?) I notice you don't have any curtains and if you aren't overlooked and don't kind then the lack of them does keep the room feeling bigger but for privacy wooden venetian blinds or, if you can push the boat out, plantation shutters would be fab. Hi. It looks a lovely room, all of the colours in your ideabook or shades of would work or a mint green with coral. I'd add a mustard chair (this one is nearly chartreuse). You could use a shade of purple as an accent colour for cushions etc. Add a gold/brass mirror over the fire and I'd go for glass coffee table/s so you can still see the floor beneath. I'd add a floor lamp over the sofa (I keep posting this plug in from westelm as can only find this one or one from made!) alternatively if you move the plant you could add a swing arm or arc lamp where the plant is. I would actually go for a grey patterned rug if the floor has grey tones as it won't make the room feel smaller. Again this is westelm and it has a yellow thread running through it but they have a number of grey patterned rugs. I'd go for Roman blinds on the windows. I might just actually go for shelves in the alcove to make the room feeling smaller, alternatively a hanging cabinet beneath shelves can work, will see I find I can find pictures.

Hi Joe, It would be fair to say the cushions do move about quite a bit and I have to nudge them back into position - particular the seat cushions. They probably move about because they're fairly light and hold their shape firmly so they shift around. The benefit of this is that the sofa holds its shape and still looks smart 2.5 years after purchase despite a lot of use. The particular fabric I have is very hard wearing. When you look close up the fabric is quite mottled so it is fairly forgiving. We have two young children who eat and drink on the sofa and the fabric still looks good as new. The sofa is comfy yet you are sat fairly upright, rather than slouching into it if that makes sense. I'm happy with it because I wanted something that wouldn't show stains, wasn't overly expensive (so that we didn't need to stress with the children) yet it still looks smart. I think it really depends on your circumstances and how you need your sofa to work for you.
