Woad blue lounge, need help with decor

Hello! So I've gone and made interiors mistake 101, although I didn't realise I'd done that at the time!

We have a north facing living room, it's fairly small/average for a Victorian terrace. There are high ceilings and tall windows.

We want it to be a guest bedroom too so wanted the overall theme to be intimate and cosy. I fell in love with woad by little greene which is a gorgeous deep blue, and we painted up to near the top and then reinstated a picture rail. We have bought a silver/grey sofa bed and the floor is a fairly cold/ greyish laminate which we can't afford to replace just yet. I looooove the blue but I can't figure out a few things are would like some guidance on any of the following.

- what colours would work well to accessorise?
- what kind of lampshade would work?
- what type of rug or colours would you recommend? My partner wants to go grey again but I think that's too boring and like the sofa
- would you say that blinds or shutters or curtains would look best?

My partner is going to build cupboards+shelves into one of the alcoves and we have no other furniture to go into this room yet. We will also reinstate the fireplace which has been bricked up., and add a ceiling Rose. Styles I want to avoid are hotel chic, nautical and country. I'm more drawn to eclectic style rooms with colour and texture but I'm afraid of overdoing it.

Hi. It looks a lovely room, all of the colours in your ideabook or shades of would work or a mint green with coral. I'd add a mustard chair (this one is nearly chartreuse). You could use a shade of purple as an accent colour for cushions etc. Add a gold/brass mirror over the fire and I'd go for glass coffee table/s so you can still see the floor beneath. I'd add a floor lamp over the sofa (I keep posting this plug in from westelm as can only find this one or one from made!) alternatively if you move the plant you could add a swing arm or arc lamp where the plant is. I would actually go for a grey patterned rug if the floor has grey tones as it won't make the room feel smaller. Again this is westelm and it has a yellow thread running through it but they have a number of grey patterned rugs. I'd go for Roman blinds on the windows. I might just actually go for shelves in the alcove to make the room feeling smaller, alternatively a hanging cabinet beneath shelves can work, will see I find I can find pictures.

I also like this blue. However to avoid a nautical feel I think that you need to knock back the white and would only have white windows and coving and paint the ceiling and the wall above the picture rail a pale silver grey to echo the floor.
I then feel that you have enough neutral and need to add an additional colour, some texture and some pattern.
How you add the extra in really depends on your personal style and you should pic a look such as Moroccan or country house hotel . I think any jewel colours will work or muted heathers and if it were me I would have a shopping list that includes a textured rug, patterned cushions, cozy curtains in a pale colour, some art, a mirror and some chrome or brass accents such as a side table, or light fitting.

houssaon I sat with a piece of it on my floor this morning and I screamed to myself 'what am I doing , Ive got rid of an axminster for this ! ' so I went to the shop and have found a neutral brown carpet 80% wool which suits a large rug I have and should bring out the colours in my new suite , I am glad I took the rug with me because the small chair is a near match to the suite, and the rug/ chair look nice together . I was tired and stressed late last night having taken up my old carpet last night in 1 piece in case I ever thought about putting it back ! everything now happens Thursdaywhen the carpet is fit and the dining suite and lounge suite is installed Ill upload. youve asked about my style ? Im going for the stressed look ! no I want a classy look but also minimalistic due to it not being a big through lounge thanks for your comments to date ps anyone want an axminster !

Thanks for the pics. I would pull the sofas apart a little as the arms are overlapping a little or try one in front of the door/window and accessorise the table between them. In terms of colour if the carpet is staying I'd look at a warm greige for a more modern look or a pale but warm green to work with the paper as well as the floor. There's quite a lot of dark furniture, I'd paint the door frames and maybe the china cabinet, something like a pale turquoise? You could also paint the dining chair frames just to lighten them up (appreciate you may not want to though!). I would also paint the fire but in a whitewash, build up the layers so the brick is still showing through rather than a solid white look which can look cold. Perhaps swap some of the striped cushions for some florals and add a textured throw over one arm. I would try grouping some of the accessories together. Is there a plug socket where the wallpaper is as a lamp would look good and add some height? In future I might consider a coffee table or upholstered footstool. Maybe a plant next to the tv in a jute or other natural plant holder. I'll try and find some pics for accessorising the fireplace. Is it a cabinet to the left of the fire as you could dress this as a seat with cushions?

hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. I do like quite modern but as the house is old I don’t want to put my grey cloth sofas and cuddle chair in, it would look so wrong. Thought maybe a black leather chesterfield in that room and a small dining table and just a couple of chairs. The ceiling is very high with original cornice and I dropped on a beautiful old nine arm glass chandelier at a local auction for £23 last week so that’s my starting point. The room is about 14ft square and I will have a tv in there in the alcove by the larger window. The photo was taken late afternoon which makes it look a bit dark but it is a really bright house. It is not overlooked at all the garden is to the side by the small window and is about a quarter of an acre. Hoping to get some chickens and ducks soon. The flooring is dark brown with grey streaks in it. I quite like the damask heavy wallpapers. I wanted to go for all white walls throughout with the odd feature wall but my mum thinks it will look like a huge cow shed and thinks different shades of grey should be used. Sorry to ramble on but as we are starting from scratch we want to get it right. Thanks.

Thank you so much for these ideas and pics it's really helped me to get an idea of what to go for, I love jewel colours so will try to get them in here.

Jonathan I'm a bit wary of painting the ceiling and between the rail and coving silver grey because I've never done anything like this before, do you have any pics in mind that would help to visualise this? Thanks!

Painting the ceiling and above the picture rail in a grey really highlights the coving in my opinion
