Hi @shanagarry80, thanks for your comments! I'm not at home right now so I can't be sure how big the extractor fan actually is but it is over a 90cm hob and oven, so must be at least 90cm. It doesn't look particularly large in situ and the inbuilt lights are very good for illuminating the cooking area. Have a look at Gutmann's website; as I said in one of my earlier comments, other companies do make similar extractors but our kitchen people thought this one best, however our kitchen is now 3 years old and a lot can happen in that time! Hope you have fun designing your new kitchen!

The instructions state a recommended height but some people do ask for them to be fitted higher. Main reason to make using hob easier, being able to see the back of the hob without banging your head on the hood if your tall. Never fitted one that high off the hob though.

Just had a quick look on the neff website installation download and for a 700 gas hob it says a minimum of 150mm is required between the cutout and a side wall, for a 700 hob the cut out is only 560mm so the hob is wider by 70mm each side, this leaves an 80mm gap between the hob top and a wall. But as stated above, having room for pan handles and space to put a pan down is a good idea. Best to look up the installation instructions for your hob model and see what it says or have a word with a gas safe engineer as you will need one to connect the hob safely.

You need to refer to the installation instructions for the specific hob these days - there’s not a BS number that covers this now, as Gas Safe adheres to each appliances guidelines ... in the past it’s been 760 mm clearance directly above a gas hob to underside of whatever is over it - this didn’t apply to items next to it.
