Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. Also if you have too much paint on your roller it leaves marks. The trick is to go over the same area in different directions

How about a darker blue on the walls such as a navy or Denim Drift by Dulux? It might tone down the blue carpet. Or a simple light grey such as Dulux Goose Down? I used it to tone down a colourful stair carpet and I feel it really worked. First pic is Denim Drift in my bathroom and the 2nd is Goose Down. Also a neutral rug may tone down the blue.

In terms of your window treatments: we would opt for something neutral - the reason being is if you ever decide to change your colour scheme in the future your selected curtains or blinds will still be relevant.
