Hi. I've just had a look in your ideabook and I would go for your bolder option of a really deep teal using your blue/green art as inspiration (where is it from btw?!). I'd add brass for your lights and some green velvet cushions for the sofa (try rockett st George) with a leafy plant or palm somewhere. Dulux have some deep teals but I'm struggling with their website, Abigail ahern also does Bowery blue which may be worth a look and you could maybe follow what she does and paint the ceiling as it doesn't look particularly high?! I can't see the tv wall but perhaps something there to draw your eye up?

Thanks, will have a browse through...I love the idea of a dark moody room...and then I panic lol! I had been toying with some green velvet cushions- anything velvet and I'm sold lol (I actually have 20m of Teal cotton velvet waiting to upholster a sofa, when I find one I love/can afford it!)! The blue art has been hanging elsewhere, but thought I would put it there to see how I felt about blue in the room. On it's own it feels too heavy on the pale walls, but as part of a gallery I like it...once the walls are painted I may feel differently and want it alone, but we will see. The room is still in flux- the TV wall has an oak sideboard on it at the moment, but we will eventually have built ins, so will tackle that wall then. I think I'm in turmoil as the room has been thrown together with bits of what I already had after we finished building the extension, but ti's time to sort it out now! Oh and the blue artwork is one of mine- I say one of mine- it makes me sound like an 'artiste'...I have never painted in my life and this is the first canvas I painted. I've done 3 now, but as this was the first I feel attached to it! (must have felt particularly moody that day!)

I quite like the colour scheme you have going on, and the geometric rug and pillows also go well together. I also agree with Verdigrisjane (the comment above) about the colour they have suggested, not too gloomy and would suit the room well!

Lighting and accessories will also add to the place, livening things up and making it cosy, here are a few suggestions we can offer.

I don't think I've seen anyone on here regret going for a dark look. I also think a bolder look suits the style of your extension which looks great! I painted my bathroom in railings a few months ago and when I did the first 2 walls it made the room feel much smaller but as soon as they were all done it was back to normal size! I know paint isn't always cheap but it can always be changed easily if you don't like it. Oh wow, the art is amazing, well done you!

Thanks for the encouragement...I do love the colour Vardo...just goes to show, sometimes you should just follow your heart! I quite like moody interiors, but also like bright with colour pops (hence my dilemmas I guess), but think moody is clinching it! I might have to use some of that teal velvet fabric I've been stashing to make some cushions..;o]

Thanks, yes the room is mostly used in the evening...even the kids don't watch much Tv (one uses devices and the other isn't really interested in screens)...god now you've got me thinking about navy...I'm a hopeless case!

Wow kerryowang, your paintings are great! I have very similar taste to you and teal and mustard are colours I always come back too. I am in the process of finishing my lounge and I have lots of paintings the have these two key colours in, midcentury olive sofas and mustard cushions. I have painted three walls in shaded white, and one 'gallery wall' in Mouses Back by Farrow and Ball. I always say to my students that sludgy colours are the best way to make bright colours shine, so it seems to work. It did test Inchyra Blue also, but to me it felt too cold in my East facing room. Wow that's really kind of you to say! I haven't a clue what I am doing as have never painted before and don't know anything about 'art' lol! To be honest I just put the colour on the canvas where I like it...no technique lol! I do love Olive green...when I say these things it makes me wonder how the hell I have ended up with a monochrome house! Fear perhaps, certainly funds....but I am dreaming of a teal velvet sofa...and now an olive green one lol! Your room sounds wonderful would love to see a pic if you have one!

Glad to hear you have inspiration Michelle M! I have been eyeing up the Stiffly Catherine! However I went to the local paint shop this morning and got a tester of Vardo made up...here is the result. This is only one coat over white so the colour would be richer after 2. I have also picked up some cheap wall lights which I really like and think they will be great, they are in one of the pictures, but obviously on their side with no backplate...my arms are not long enough! What do you think?? I'm not sure if I should go even darker, but I do love the colour...

Obviously I will need to change the cushions a little and the lampshade (which I can paint with my acrylics actually and will paint the inside of it a gold/brass colour....I am ridiculously excited!

You could go darker but I really like it, has transformed the room already. The lights look good too!

Great choice! Green is PANTONE'S color of this year. The selected color in a green tone is vivid and intense and is reminiscent of spring, a time which nature comes back to life :)

One thing I am struggling with is a ceiling light. The ceilings are low and a pendant light isn't going to work at all. To be honest I wish we didn't have a ceiling light, it was Hubby who insisted on it...I prefer variety of lamps. I don't like seeing the bulb. Any ideas? The wall lights are in the latest pictures above.

I haven't heard of this company before but they have a few flush or semi-flush which would complement the lights, however (!) you can see the bulbs so you may hate them!

Yes Victoria I think that is what I will end up using....at least the bare bulb will be covered until I find one I love!
