Kitchen Lighting advice

Does anyone have any recommendations for lighting in a kitchen? We're just knocking through our small kitchen into our dining room and we're wondering if there is any suggested number of spotlights/how far apart they should be/how far pendants should be from the surface/from each other, etc. There are no wall units above the sink, so we were thinking about having three pendants above that area to make that wall more interesting, and lights under the top cabinets on the oven side. The island is only 1m across due to space restrictions. Any bright (ha!) ideas for the rest of the lighting?!

Comments (4)Hi Patrizia, Ok so for the island, I take it there is an extractor fan in the middle for the hob? If so I would stick to the 2 spots either side and make sure your extractor fan has lighting (they usually do). The alternative could be to have a downdraft extractor fan (if it is still possible to change this). They are not as expensive as you might think, obviously as with everything you get what you pay for. Here's one relatively cheap but can fetch up to 2K! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cookology-CDD900BK-Kitchen-Downdraft-Extractor/dp/B0191SSA5I If you do decide to have downdraft extractor fan, I would ditch the spots and put three pendant lights. This is going to to add instant character and statement pieces into your kitchen without looking like a football stadium! For the dining area I would also suggest to have one medium sized chandelier modern/traditional whatever you fancy. This is far more modern than having spots and will also allow you to add your personality and character - something spots can't do! Hope that helps! Comments (10)We are having recessed downlights and the light won't be changeable but will all be dimmable. We have quite a few so I don't think budget will stretch to Philips Hue. We have one pendant over table and one over the island but maybe a large one with 2 or 3 bulbs off it, I've not picked it yet. My kitchen is all dark and floor will be dark grey tiles but all walls white and like I say, 3 large windows. I'm really not sure what to pick even having read all the info about different light colours. Comments (8)Seating needs to be central really as we need some sort of sideboard/dresser against LH wall. If more space is needed could always reduce length of the kitchen unit run along back wall. That offset pendant looks interesting, thanks - I'll look for one in brass.) I was wondering if such a light existed that can be hung both sides of the window to meet centrally and hang below it (I've been unable to find such a thing though!).
