LVT installation advice in south facing kitchen/diner
Comments (7)Hello Paul, LVT in a south facing room with 5 metres worth of glazing won't cause a problem so long as you look for two things: We'd recommend going belts and braces and use a high temperature adhesive, like F Balls F48 - click here. You would normally use this in conjunction with underfloor heating and/or when in areas of huge temperature fluctuation like conservatories. We'd recommend going for one of the major LVT manufacturer brands, as they are more likely to have tested their products to be UV stable. This is what will help prevent fading in the sunlight. When you get serious with your supplier to make the purchase (and we would very much like to supply your materials, Paul), ask to see the technical data sheet for your product as you want to see for yourself that the product is UV stable. A manufacturer's data sheet should show you whether it is or is not UV stable. Major LVT brands to consider are: Amtico Karndean Natural Solutions Polyflor Best to stick to a major brand, in your circumstances, as the products will have been manufactured to high UK standards. The cheap and cheerful ones are produced, in volume, in China and do not have such stringent quality control tests carried out. Shrinkage? Doubtful. That "can" happen when using a click LVT but if you use a dryback LVT that must be adhered you won't experience shrinkage, Paul. We're cute, we're cuddly… we're the Flooring Gurus!...See MoreAdvice re kitchen diner extension plans
Comments (30)We currently have folding doors between the living and dining room but I find them very awkward. My plan (when we can afford it) is to put pocket doors there so we can easily close off the living room or have open as desired. So you think it's okay for the only access to the kitchen to be through the middle room? I wondered if it would end up feeling like a corridor, rather than a room! I don't know that we have the space for that much storage but it does look great. Having a couple of chairs at the end of an island or peninsula is a good idea, if there's not room on the side. Any thoughts on the kitchen layout? I've drawn so many floor plans and end up using a different one each time. I may have to figure it out with a kitchen designer once we have booked a builder. I know the builders we are considering are booked in advance for some time, so we should have some time to decide on the kitchen specifics! Thanks again for the input. I really appreciate it!...See MoreKitchen-Diner layout advice
Comments (19)Good afternoon All, Thanks to your advice and with the added benefit of an in-store kitchen design appointment (to test the original plan), we have had a rethink on our previous configuration. The attached sketch shows our latest thinking. This removes the proposed Utility to the side and a section of the existing external wall, with the side door relocated further down the wall, opening up the space. We can then get a longer run of kitchen and wall units in, as well as an island, and full-width bifolds or sliders across the back. Rather than pursuing the Study/ Lobby 'middle room' idea, a separate Utility Area is created in part of this area, with a much smaller extended hallway/ lobby. And the 'zoned' Snug/ Play Area is preserved to reflect our preference to not go fully open plan. Feels like an improvement to us! What do the rest of you think? All comments welcomed please....See MoreKitchen Diner seating area advice
Comments (5)Minnie, thank you. That does look lovely, I love swings but we can't have that hanging from the ceiling. And the standing swings I have seen all feel like outdoor ones. I will take a pic of the wider space, but it is mainly a fairly large kitchen with dark blue units, white countertops and white tiled flooring that you see in the picture. We have an island with bar stools, 2 blue and 2 yellow. And a wood coloured dining table on the other side of the room. This particular area is next to the Patio doors leading to the garden. I'm looking to create a small cozy area here for sitting down when someone is cooking or watching kids play (I have a play mat and a few toys set up in front of the area too)...See MoreUser
