Comments (11)Hello Suzanne, I'm late to the party but I wanted to go against the grain on this thread and suggest a built-in. I feel it would elevate your space. Bringing a level of refinement from being custom to your room's height and width, it would also give you the opportunity to personalise it to your style. You could make it a feature, a show stopper, the pièce de résistance of your living room and home :) As a work-in-progress example, a client of mine with a love of Edwardian interiors asked me to refurbish her home. Part of this included creating a design for an underwhelming looking wall with a fireplace. So I did this - before photo also attached. I cannot wait to go back to the property and take photos of the finished product with all my furniture recommendations. I hope I have provided food for thought. Comments (11)You must of discussed this with your designer and asked for your free standing appliances to be hidden before the kitchen was ordered. What you have is a pretty standard way of hiding a freestanding washing machine in a base unit, you have an 800 wide base and the worktop will be extra deep. I'd suggest either using capsules or changing your washing machine to an integrated model. Also with an integrated model the front is stepped which allows for the machine to come further forward as the plinth fits in the stepped area and the drain is higher for access. this would also be the same with your dryer. For the plinth at present, it should be sealed to the floor, so have a word with your fitter and ask him how the plinth can be removed so you can service the appliances easily, he could with a bit of forethought, cut the plinth in a way that it would be reasonably easy to remove a section so you have access, but bear in mind that if you have to many sections than the plinth will look unsightly....See More

- 9 years agoUnfortunately my budget is half that( £4K ish) but then I don't think Our kitchen is as big lol,
Here is a rough lay out, difficult size due to all the doors!
But basically wanting larder/upcycled dresser on right side, then sink unit, dishwasher unit, oven housing ( although thinking of having a free standing range cooker) what ever else will fit down left side and a couple of wall units either side of the oven maybe!
