Lighting help!

Is it ok to mix different lights? Need island pendants, a large chandelier (for dining side vaulted ceiling) and wall lights (dining side) for newly extended kitchen diner.

have got the pendants already but they don't do marching wall lights

Struggling to find a chandelier with matching wall lights we like.

is it ok to mix 3 different styles? These are 3 we like at the moment.

antiquw brass pendants:

'Soft brass' wall lights

Chandelier either first one which has a bronzey/browny finish or a more simple brass one

Your space looks like it's going to be beautiful when it's finished!

There's no problem mixing lights, but if you want to try to keep the overall feel cohesive it's best to stick to the same finish across the board (for instance here it looks like you're most interested in a brass finish, and that will tie in with the knobs you've picked). That way you can mix the fittings, but keep the overall look chic and consistent.

I think some form of wicker or rattan pendant would work really well with the style or maybe the Eos feather pendant (also comes in natural and grey). However high is the ceiling and what size is the room?

Hi Fiona, Ok so I would change the ceiling light to a fixture which spreads the light in different directions rather than just down. So something like this... http://www.westelm.co.uk/staggered-glass-chandelier-6-light-milk-antique-brass-w3479 I would then add a couple of floor lamps (didn't see any side tables in the images, but you could add table lamps) where the light is disbursed as well: http://www.westelm.co.uk/light-rods-led-floor-lamp-h4047 Not sure how much room you have on your shelf if you have room for a small lamp? I forgot to ask the chain length... it’s really quite tricky finding something, you’d hope something would just come up on a search for vaulted ceilings! I don’t know what you think of this. It can go on a sloped ceiling, max drop is 2.36m and it’s 1.4m wide so should light the whole table. I know it’s mid century in style but I think works with the slightly industrial table and other lights (especially if you stick with the round bulbs for both)

Hi, if these are going over the island, rather than over a walk way you should be fine however, I would consider what height they will be incase they block your view of sight

Or even a link to your kitchen, dining table, paint and fabrics just to get a feel for how it will look

Here's a pic of the room as is, vision is required..... I'm standing in bottom left hand corner as per the floor plan, opening that will be glazed is currently sealed with a tarp so tricky to get a good view of the whole space

Oops seem to have attached the same pic a few times and they've come out a bit 'widened'

walls/ceilings will be f&b wimborne white

Old wooden kitchen units redone in f&b skylight with black/grey granite, square island in fired earth bamiyan blue & wooden worktop. (Existing tiled splash backs are shades of blue)

floor in karndean dusk oak

cup handles/knobs in antique brass

existing table is oak

Fab space! I think in theory it is a large, well divided space so 3 styles could work together. I think I personally would go for a slightly less intricate wall light style though and let the chandelier be the focus, but if you are going for a luxurious or gothic style it will probably work well- so hard to visualise when all you can see is plaster on the walls isn't it?! My favourites are 1 and 3 btw!

Thanks, maybe I'll rethink the filigree wall lights as they're quite different to everything else. Any ideas of some unobtrusive wall lights so the focus is the chandelier? Maybe some of those plaster/ceramic ones you paint same colour as the wall? Is there such thing as a contemporary version of those?

Laura I think you should consider if you're likely to have all on at once? Probably not, so keep with each light having its own quality and providing a different job / mood.

As mentioned above, with the same brass look throughout they should all tie in.

Go for it.

Daniella we've tried a few different cup handles including ones from worldofbrass online but our current faves are John Lewis ones, here

Hi Laura,
The last chandelier on the list is great and would fit the space well so I would say that's a must have! :)
I personally like the wall lights but can see that they may not go with the overall look taking into account your other finishes.
This is a very unobtrusive wall light which adds the soft glow required but can be fitted now and painted with the rest of the plaster to match the wall colour.. they will then blend nicely and not take away from the main feature.
As the pendants are in a different area, I don't think it will make too much different that they are not the same style as your chandelier.. but they will work well with the rest of your kitchen which is fab! All the best.

Lovely space you have. Like mentioned above already, as long as you stick to the same finish or style you should be fine with mixing different lights. We'd also suggest to have everything on dimmer switches so you can easily change the mood of the whole room to suit different activities and occasions.
