Lighting help please

Is it too much to stick to similar types of lights in living room. Was thinking of breaking it up with John Lewis grey ribbon light then Made have now got a new ceiling light in this range. Not sure if it will be too much. Any help advice greatly received 🙏

It would work but if you went for the made ceiling light I would personally swap out the matching table lamp. A lamp/s with a pleated fabric shade would add more texture and pattern. Pooky have some lovely shades

Thanks Minnie, I’ve ordered the lamp now 🙈 will have a look at pooky as I might be able to put the lamp elsewhere, thanks again 🙏

Hi It's difficult to tell without seeing the room, but I imagine you are finding it a little dark? These hanging pendants are a great feature and they can light up your breakfast bar surface well, but they won't be adequate lighting for the whole room. If you go straight for another central ceiling light you will probably find you still have areas of the room that are too dark for the tasks you need to do and that it will detract from the look you have created with the pendant lights. It might be a good idea to think first about which areas need the most light. For example you might put some LED strips under your wall units. These will provide good task lighting onto the counters below and give a nice glowing effect for mood lighting too. You could have these fitted properly, but we just have some simple ones from IKEA stuck beneath ours with Blu Tac. They are very user friendly and you can't tell at all that its such a quick fix job. You could even do the same beneath the cupboard doors to give a glow from underneath to light the floor. Then if you have any glass cabinets you could put some little spots inside them to highlight any glassware or decorative items you might have. You could also think about table/desk lamps to highlight dark corners. Phillips Hue, or Amazon Alexa are worth investigating as a way of controlling lots of separate lights, but if you're splashing out on an electrician I would have them do under cabinet lights and some recessed down-lights in the ceiling - then everything can be controlled with a couple of light switches and you won't have another light fitting competing with your lovely pendant feature. I’d be tempted to move the feature down light near to Belfast sink a bit closer to the perimeter wall - so the lights shine above the sink - to cancel out the shadow it would cause if it were where positioned currently.

I think some form of wicker or rattan pendant would work really well with the style or maybe the Eos feather pendant (also comes in natural and grey). However high is the ceiling and what size is the room?

I don't think it will be too busy, but it will be personal preference. Different people notice different things. Why not have them put in and then if he finds them too distracting then have them removed? He'll probably forget they're there after a week!

Oh no, don’t change it, it’s just personal opinion, I prefer complementary rather than matching! Go with what you like!

Hi Minnie, so pleased you gave me the idea about changing the lamp. It will fit in hall beautifully. We’ve the hall lamp for ages so a change is well overdue. Any thoughts on this JL one to fit in with the living room lights? Looking at side tables to match the coffee table? Any thoughts on the one from Olivia’s? Wanted to mix it up a bit & avoid safe option of matching side table from JL? Any thoughts? Many thanks🙏

Sorry I did look the other day but failed to find anything! I do like what you've chosen but my only thought with the table was whether there were too many lines going. You have the slanted legs of the sofas and hair pin of furniture. I was thinking of a round drum type table and a curvy table lamp although your lamp works well. Ignore what I’ve used in the 2nd as just showing shapes (and you’d need to be careful the gold/brass finishes don’t clash)

Is tha paint and curtains staying the same?

Thanks Minnie, great advice with the lines, I can see what you mean. Curtains & blinds going & we opted for white shutters, probably looking at ammonite or cornforth white on the walls. I would have loved to have gone for stiffkey or Hague blue on fireplace wall but I think it would clash with the blue chair. Thanks for looking at the different ideas 🙏
